Booked this because I assumed it would be nicer than the hotels closer to the highway. Parking was good. Old rooms that were somewhat clean. Comfortable beds. Restaurant was closed after 8pm. Nothing open close by.

A Horror Movie in Disguise – Bring Your Own Soap!

I recently stayed at Clarion Hotel & Suites University- Shippensburg, and let me tell you, it felt like I was trapped in a low-budget horror movie—complete with the only thing missing: Norman Bates lurking in the shadows!

From the moment we arrived, things were already eerie. We walked into our room, flipped the light switch, and… nothing. It was like stepping into a haunted house. The only light source was a lamp with a broken glass lampshade, which was both “vintage chic” and a safety hazard. A real two-for-one special!

The TVs? Oh boy! They decided to play hard to get. We had to unplug them to turn them on, which felt like performing some ancient ritual. Turning them off? Same dance all over again!

When we tried to shower, we found there was no soap. The receptionist casually mentioned they hadn’t received their soap order, so the owner had to go buy some. Apparently, they were saving the big bars for guests who might have their own soap collection. I didn’t realize I was checking into a soap-free commune!

To make matters worse, there was no hair dryer in the bathroom. I discovered that the hair dryer had been ripped off the wall—perhaps someone was trying to start their own DIY beauty salon?

The bathroom sink was a whole adventure on its own. It wouldn’t drain, and if you closed the drain, good luck reopening it! The pop-up drain lift rod was lying on the shelf under the sink—like it was on a permanent vacation. When I asked the receptionist about it, they casually informed us that they took their super snake away because they thought it would damage the drain. Yes, you read that right. No snake, no problem, right?

The heat in our room was a real mystery. It worked intermittently but never actually heated the place. I spent the night shivering under the covers, wishing for some warmth.

Then there was the gym—oh, the gym! The heat was stuck on, turning it into a sauna that made me question my life choices. As I struggled to breathe, I thought, “If I’d only known this, we could have come down here to sleep instead of shivering in bed!” Working out in 80-degree heat? Talk about extreme fitness! And, of course, the gym TV was also out of order—because who needs entertainment while sweating buckets?

The grand finale came when we tried to re-enter our room the next day. Our keys refused to work, and when we tried calling the front desk for help, no one ever answered. This meant I had to go up and down to the lobby each time to report the issues, navigating an extremely slow elevator that seemed to take its sweet time.

Overall, my stay at Clarion Hotel & Suites University- Shippensburg was like living in a comedy of errors. I highly recommend finding somewhere else to stay unless you’re looking for a spooky adventure. Just remember to bring your own soap—because clearly, they don’t want to waste any!

We've stayed here several times and had good experiences til our last visit. I think it may have changed hands because it was definitely not as friendly or clean as before, sad to say

The room was very nice and clean. The bed was so cozy I didn't want to get up the next day. The breakfast buffet was really good too! I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

The only complaints are the water was luke warm, hair built up in corners of the bathroom, mold on the ceiling and crease, and a dirty bathroom floor that the bath mat turned brown. I expected to come back after a long day at Gettysburg to get a hot shower to relax and nope that wasn't happening!

Rooms: Housekeeping needs to pay better attention to bathrooms and actually clean them!

Do NOT stay here. Don't skip this review for your health. We booked this room for a quick over night so we didn't need to drive home late at night with babies from a trip. Upon entering the hotel I was surprised how nice the lobby was by the looks of the outside. Get checked in fast with no problems there. As soon as we enter our room the smell was enough to knock you down. Musty and damp smell. It's late we are tired, I have my twin 1 year old grand babies as well as my own children with me. I'm like we can just sleep and ignore the smell. Oh boy do I wish the smell was the only problem. Its WAY worse then a smell. We pull down the blankets and the sheets , mattress pad and all pillow cases and blankets are full of what appears to he blood and poop marks. Pure nasty. I call down to the front desk they don't offer to bring them up they ask me to come down. Again it's late we just want to go to bed. I walk down they hand me 2 sheets. I inform them again(as I did on the phone when I called down ) both beds ( 2 queens) the bedding was unusable. We need all bedding.. the person at the desk tells me 2 sheets is all they have available to offer me. No blankets no pillow cases.. Just 2 sheets. I take them walk back to my room and open the dresser drawer to discover live and dead maggots in the dresser in very plain view. At this point I tell my family for health we can not and will not stay here . I go back to the front desk again inform them of this much bigger problem. They was not in the least bit surprised. I told them we could not stay it wouldn't be safe for my family. That we was leaving and i would expect a full refund. I was willing to let some things go and just simply sleep because it was late ...but live maggots absolutely not. Do not stay here this was the absolute worst hotel i have ever in my live been in.

This place was phenomenal. The customer service was exceptional. When I got there I needed to get my nails done Joe, who was at the desk, phone numbers and locations for me to get my nails done. She swapped our room out and upgraded us with. Oh my goodness she was just amazing. Fast forward to our morning check out, the front desk person who was also running the bar greeted us with such warmth. It was amazing. She was very professional and polite. The entire staff even the person sweeping the grounds at the hotel was very, very nice and kind. We will definitely come back.

Rooms: Very comfortable the bed was so comfortable we overslept

Food & drinks: The restaurant there was amazing. We had some good food crabcake, grilled cheese and crab pretzel and they topped it off with the peanut butter cheesecake

Noteworthy details: Be expected to be greeted with kindness

Good hotel, It fit our needs. Room was clean, bed was somewhat comfortable but we both like our bed a little firmer. Shower wasn't the best, low water pressure drained slowly and not enough hot water. We didn't wake up in time for the breakfast but the coffee was good. All in all I would stay here again if we ever need to

It was a lovely time. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and the bed felt like sleeping on a cloud. I was able to get some work done in a stress-free environment. Not to mention, they have delicious food. Would recommend and would stay there again.

It's a quaint hotel in a great downtown location. A good mixture of classic and modern. Great beds. Bathrooms are good. Ac works well. Haven't had a lot of dealing with front desk (that's good) but no complaints. Breakfast is the only negative so far. Feels pre frozen and very limited variety. Oh but a nice bar and restaurant attached. Also a dinner across the street.

Place was beautiful for being in what looked like the middle of town. The restaurant was closed since we got there super late. I accidentally booked the wrong night in the app and they were able to fix it and book the right night. We only stayed to sleep a few hours but the beds were comfy and clean and the shower was hot.

When taking a shower, the slightly cold warm water turned into completely cold water.
