Great spot with some delicious Dominican food
Amazing presentation, flavors, and service.
Service and food were good. It was a little expensive but so is everything else.
The “small” lunch to me was more than enough and only 11$. Their food is always sooo good😩
Delicious food! Nice service!
Cuban sandwich is great!
Such a cute little place and probably the best food I had while on this trip! As soon as you walk in it’s like coming into a cozy little home. They have a large variety of food to chose from and some of the food is displayed in buffet style so you get an idea of what you would like to have. We had the chicken fingers and fries along with the Costillas guisadas which were amazing! Can’t go wrong with choosing this place as your go to food!
Parking: There is parking right in front of the restaurant.

"A Taste of the Caribbean in the Poconos – El Merengue Restaurant"
We visited El Merengue Restaurant in the Poconos for dinner, and it felt like a quick escape to the Caribbean! The exterior is vibrant and colorful, reminiscent of a true Caribbean setting. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the staff and promptly seated. The staff was courteous and attentive, answering our questions and offering great recommendations.
The aroma of fresh Caribbean food filled the air as we browsed the menu. Much of their food is displayed behind glass, steaming and fresh, allowing you to simply point and choose. We ordered a few dishes, including rice, red beans, and pernil (pulled pork), which was packed with flavor and juicy tenderness—a burst of excitement with every bite!
We also tried the empanadas (beef and cheese), made fresh to order, which took a bit to prepare but was absolutely worth the wait. Their alcapurria—a Caribbean favorite with beef and potatoes wrapped in fried plantains—was perfectly seasoned, and the chicken and garlic mofongo was deliciously fresh, made from scratch with unbeatable flavor.
The food here was absolutely amazing. El Merengue is a true “diamond in the rough” in the Poconos, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Caribbean meal. Don’t miss the chance to try this hidden gem if you’re in the area!

I only highlight the attitude of the girl who served us, it is the only good thing the restaurant has.
I went with my girlfriend for dinner on Friday night, we stopped because of the photos we saw on Google maps, we each ordered a soup, I didn't like mine at all but I was hungry, the rice is not fresh, my girlfriend's soup It was good but far from being delicious, we asked for a barbecue that was said to be for two people, the meat (which according to it was medium) was still alive, we asked for it to be cooked a little more, I also asked for a portion of matures and no They were fresh, they were hard and there was no banana flavor, the grilled meat had a “chimichurri” that tasted more like oil than anything else, there was no flavor of anything else. He also brought a chorizo that was either expired or it was already the last day. Lastly, the music they played was on YouTube or Spotify but with ads, every half song there was an ad, for it was a Friday night, I understand why I was so alone, I would never recommend this place nor return unless they change completely The administration, the waitress is the only thing that is good in the restaurant, it is the only thing that has 5 stars.

I was not impressed with this place but maybe just not culturally what I was expecting. Most of the items on the menu as well as the prepared cafeteria style selections were unfamiliar to me. I ended up having rotisserie chicken and rice with beans. This section was good but pricey for what it was. my daughter opted for chicken tenders and french fries thinking she could not go wrong with that. However, these were not typical chicken tenders. They did not even look like chicken tenders. We thought it was fried fat back when we first looked at it. After tearing into it, we could tell it was chicken, but it was very dry very hard and very thin and not good at all. That said it was obvious they had lots of regulars coming in and out, so I guess their food is an authentic Spanish niche. If that is a familiar cuisine for you and what you were looking for, you may like it.
Parking: Parking area is very limited and difficult to get in and out.

It's probably the best authentic Spanish food I have ever had. We split a combo meal between 3 people and had plenty of leftovers. The empanadas were amazing, so don't miss out!
