I recently ordered an Italian hoagie from Keystone Pizza on Westchester Pike in Upper Darby, PA. I’m giving this sandwich a 3.5, and here’s why.
What Was Missing
I specifically asked for: Extra onions Seeded peppers Sweet peppers
My husband even repeated these requests while placing the order over the phone, so I know they were communicated. Unfortunately, none of those items made it onto my hoagie.
What They Did Get Right
To their credit: They added a little mayonnaise, as requested.
They substituted others' usual dressing with olive oil, pleasantly surprised
The meat was fresh. The bread was fresh. I asked for the roll to be gutted, and while it could have been gutted a bit more, it was acceptable.

I am a hoagie connoisseur. Philadelphians pride ourselves on knowing a good hoagie when we taste one. I grew up in the era of classic shops like:
Ricci's at 11th & Annin Ferante’s on Haverford Ave Primo’s in Havertown Leo’s Steaks in Folsom And of course, the legendary Koch’s Deli on 43rd Street. If you know, you know.
These places were known for listening and giving customers exactly what they ordered. That’s part of what makes a great hoagie shop.
How I Fixed It
My own extra onions My own sweet peppers My own seeded peppers
I keep these in the house for moments exactly like this, because I’ve learned not to assume a shop will get the order right.
A Note on Onions
One more thing: Who puts red onions on an Italian hoagie?
That must be some new trend, because it’s not a Philadelphia-area tradition. A proper Italian hoagie gets:
Yellow onions, or Sweet onions (preferably Vidalia) Red onions throw the flavor off entirely.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the hoagie was good — fresh ingredients, solid construction — but not what I asked for. Would I go back? Yes, but with different expectations. I expect to be heard, and I expect the order to be taken correctly.

Normally, Keystone Pizza is great! We ordered delivery Friday11/14/25 at 6:51pm. Received our order 2 hours and 15 minutes later and the food was COLD!! Very disappointing.

When I say I’m LIVIDDDD IM LIVID !!!!!!!!! I’ve been ordering here for 15+ years. My family has spent thousandsss of dollars for family parties throughout the years. Even after moving from living 5 mins away to now approx 15-20 I still support this business. I know the number by heart because I’ve ordered so much from them. The quality has changed throughout the years with new management etc but not to the extreme that it’s still not good food. The team members knew me and always felt like I was supporting a business that loved their customers. Sometimes there issues with the orders but no one’s perfect… today I ordered a salad that I get on the regular when I do order. There’s a new working that accidentally messed up my order, so I call and address the issue. The manger I’m assuming said it’s the new girls fault and he will give me 10% off my next order then hung up ….. I call back and said wait sir how will someone know I have a discount and also I wasn’t satisfied with that option. He offered me 20% and before I could even breathe hung up again. I called back yet a third time and was so lost why he kept hanging up on me. I told him how extremely rude that was for him to do that he apologize and said go ahead talk. Ummmm after you just did that absolutely not because I did nothing wrong. I ordered my food and paid for what I ordered not whatever I received. The appropriate thing which has happened before would be to offer either a full refund , half or whatever ADDITION TO A RESPECTFUL NICE ATTITUDE. I’m in disbelief never have I ever throughout the years experienced this from here. I’m disgusted and so upset !!!!!!!

How you mess up a salad? i will never know. A lump of cheese just waiting in the middle of the salad i kept chewing on chicken skin the chicken had a very nasty after taste money well waisted never again
I usually order pizza from Keystone at least once a week. I have a big family so I spend at least $100 minimum. I USUALLY have a great experience but today the pizza didn't even look like it normally does. I called and explained that there was simply too much cheese added (to the point where we didn't want to eat it) and the manager of the store was extremely dismissive and rude. I even offered to bring the pizza (which was delivered) all the way to the store. However, they insisted that there was nothing wrong. Rather than argue with them, they have simply lost a once loyal customer. I will have to find a new pizza spot for my family. Food costs too much this day in age to accept poor quality and even poorer customer service. I'm extremely disappointed.
