We stopped in for a treat, and while it wasn’t bad, there are definitely better spots in town. The staff came across as annoyed that customers were there, which took away from the experience. There’s also no indoor seating, and overall the visit felt pretty underwhelming.

Holy crap was this place good!!! They had the best gelato state side I have ever had. Rules of gelato: #1. Stay away from places with the pretty, puffy clouds of gelato. The fluffiness comes from artificial thickeners and those huge mounds mean that they’re making lots of gelato in advance and reusing the leftovers each day. #2. If the colors are too bright, the gelato ain’t right. The high-octane colors mean lots of chemicals were used in the process. Have you ever tossed an apple in a blender, or a banana? Then you know they don’t come out bright green and bright yellow. One of the best tests is pistachio. If they serve bright green…move on!! These folks passed every test. I had the chocolate hazelnut and the pistachio. Outstanding!!! If you love gelato like I do. This is the place.

We come from the Lancaster area for this gelato. There is another gelato place in West Chester, and while it's good, my partner and I find it a little too sweet. We're the kind of people who like our desserts only mildly sweet. So D'Ascenzo's is our spot. One of our favorites is the pistachio; not only is it natural in color, no green color added, but it is less sweet in the perfectly balanced, slightly savory, true to the actual nut, way, so it doesn't lose it's appeal. Honestly, their pistachio, the dark chocolate, and the berry flavors, are my all time favorites. I could eat a lot of this stuff. The charm of the windows style service is an appeal, as well.
