Bad experience. I visited for the first time on a Wednesday, 1:30 pm.Very bad service and bad food too. The room employee was always absent/divided with another role.A 25 minute wait for the "choquinhos" dish. There were few customers in the room, who even ended up being served after me, having arrived first and also eating a dish of the day.The food was very salty and very poorly served.I don't recommend it at all
A happy discovery, with a very friendly employee, homemade food and affordable menus. They operate mainly at lunch, dinners only with groups by appointment or on Benfica game days.

This was another restaurant on my radar due to the frequencing of local people . We ate here twice and booked both times because it gets busy and people queue down the stairs. Both nights the service was spot on and quick considering it’s so busy. The garlic bread as usual is lovely and the portion sizes are huge. You get what you order and then chips, potatoes, rice and veg to share depending on what they have fresh that day. No room for puds. A glass of wine and a beer and the bill was 32 euros. Fantastic place, I am glad we found it.
Super tasty food, you won't be hungry at the end of the meal! Not a lot of vegetarian options unfortunately but if you don't eat meat and fish, you still can find soups or salads.
Still as good as ever. We have been eating here since after the flood! the local food is excellent and even when busy the service is good,

The combination of generous portions, amazing food, and friendly staff created an experience I won't soon forget. If you find yourself in Funchal and crave an authentic culinary adventure, make sure to pay a visit to A Bica. It's a true gem that embodies the essence of delicious Madeiran cuisine and offers an exceptional dining experience that will leave you wanting more.

Great Local Hidden Gem. Right across from the main tourist Market it’s just a doorway and then you go downstairs to the actual restaurant. They serve local food as it’s meant to be at very good prices. Service is exceptional. We shared the deep fried squid, limpets and also shared a main course of meat skewers of pork and beef. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It was recommended to us by a local Emanuel of Walking with Emanuel.
We were recommended A Bica by our walk guide. So when back from walk we booked a table for 5. So glad we did. When we arrived the place was buzzing and our table was the only available one there. People queueing to get in on the stairs down. The staff were lovely friendly and nice. The food was plentiful and our table was hardly big enough for everything. We tried the limpets, a local, delicacy served on a sizzling iron plate with garlic and herby butter - delicious. We had fish, meat dishes all good. We all had fried squid as a starter and it was the best Ive ever had tender and sweet. Very nice to get boiled potatoes too as very rarely served anywhere these days. Total delight ,great value and definitely worth a visit.
This does great food with friendly service but you need to book or wait on the basement stairs to get a table. Bustling atmosphere with all tables full (on a Wednesday night) and such lovely fish. 162E for 5 very full people.
Simply brilliant. All locals, always busy, great food, fantastic value. Bustling friendly atmosphere. Can’t recommend this place enough
I have been there with my partner. We were looking for a genuine experiencing and we ask at our hotel. We ate there four times, out of seven evenings of holiday. We particularly appreciated the familiar context in which we had dinner, loving both the food (we had fish and meat, equally exquisite) as well as the service. We are particularly thanks full to the owner of the restaurant - who is affectionate for the quality of his place - and to Patricia - who welcomed us many times. We suggest to book in advance, as the place gets righteously crowded after 8 pm.
