We were having lunch yesterday with some foreign friends and the choice couldn't have been better. Typical tavern with homemade food and very well prepared. The interior room has a decoration typical of a traditional tavern, which gives it a welcoming atmosphere that, together with the service always carried out with great friendliness and attention to the customer, gives a familiar touch to the experience. The razor clam rice is simply the best I've ever eaten. The veal chop and spare ribs were also on point, both in terms of seasoning and preparation. The desserts were homemade, with special emphasis on the pine nut. In the end, I had the opportunity to try the homemade pennyroyal liqueur.

Traditional Portuguese and regional restaurant. We liked everything (except the melgas, but there's no going back on that). It's just like being at home... Delicious food. We ate clam and clam rice... Wonderful. We ended up meeting the owner, friend (cousin) Guilherme, very cheerful and super friendly!!! Vanda who served us was also very friendly!!! Esplanade facing the Sado river with the old bridge illuminated... Simple and genuine. We loved it and we will definitely go back!!!

The Rice Route ends today in Alcácer do Sal, where several restaurants in the municipality make dishes with rice produced in the Sado Valley. As such, I couldn't help but visit and enjoy this sunny Sunday in this beautiful Alentejo city. My visit was at Restaurante Tasca do Barrocas, a space located right in the center of Alcacer in a typical tavern-style environment with super friendly and efficient service from the staff. To start, there was bread, olives, very good dry cheese and some super tasty sautéed fresh mushrooms. For the main course, I shared a great Açorda Alentejana de Amêijoas in which the broth was very aromatic and palatable, with good Clams and Spinach and followed by a very well prepared Cod Rice accompanied by Spinach and Chickpeas. I accompanied the meal with White Wine from the Barrosinha area and also finished by sharing a great Olive Oil and Honey Cake and the traditional Pinhoada de Alcácer. The restaurant is not cheap, a meal costs around €30 per person but currently Alentejo is very expensive.
Ps: I apologize for the reddish photos, but lunch was on the terrace and the red umbrellas didn't help...

SHAME OF THE SITE!!!! The owner is a SCAMMER!! He started shouting and insulting a woman who was waiting for her boyfriend to arrive to get money BECAUSE THEY DON'T LET YOU PAY WITH A CARD!!! He is truly rude, to call the police how the owner and the cook treat people!!!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!
When we arrived we saw that we couldn't pay by card and my boyfriend went to an ATM while I sat at the table waiting. I don't speak Portuguese but I tried to explain it with signs and in English/Spanish, while the older waiter and the cook spoke to me in Portuguese without even trying to make themselves understood. Only one younger waitress was friendly to me.
While I was waiting for my boyfriend to arrive and make sure we could pay, not even 5 minutes passed, the waiters came talking to me in a horrible tone, telling me everything, without understanding anything I told them that I'm sorry I didn't understand, they even made a gesture of mockery and grimaces of very bad manners. The whole bar watched meanwhile. I understand that they insisted on ordering, but I didn't want to order without ensuring that we could finally pay with cash. I repeat, not even 5 minutes have passed and now the cook comes, speaking in ways just as bad as the previous waiter. Without understanding anything, I was just trying to apologize and tell them right away that my boyfriend had gone to get money, same thing. A minute later the rude waiter from the beginning came back, he told me everything again, and this time I told him that I was not going to eat there and before I got up he was already kicking me out... he kicked me out, literally. And to know everything he was telling me because I didn't understand anything.
When a foreigner goes somewhere outside their country, I don't expect them to speak my language but I do expect them to treat me with respect and good manners.
Seriously, the worst treatment I have ever received.
