Extremely popular place even with locals. Friendly staff, great buzz, and delicious francesinha. You should book as it is packed

Delicious meal. The sauce is really special and the pudding is nice in there as well. We had a good time in here. The staff are polite and helpful.

This was a great start to our trip, recommended by many. The place started to fill up quickly, but service was super quick. The staff was also very friendly. Portions were large and prices were fair. Definitely will be returning

I had lunch twice in this restaurant during my trip to Porto. The atmosphere is pleasant. At lunch hour it gets more hustle, however, the happy staff is focused and all ends up well. The francesinha may be the more famous dish. It is very tasty and perfect! I cannot compare because that was the restaurant recommended. It is very worthy

We went to the restaurant twice for dinner, all the food we tried was excellent. Would definitely go back there again

Really tasty and filling Francesinha. The cafe is busy and vibrant. Popular with locals and tourists alike. Service is quick, despite it being busy. A great place for lunch.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this Portuguese gem, and it exceeded all expectations. The francesinha was a flavorful delight. The staff's warmth and friendliness created a welcoming atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience.

Obviously went in to try the famous speciality dish, We sat at the bar as we like to and ordered the top of range Francesinha with the steak in it, fortunately made the decision to pay a little extra and share it (about 2 euros) Watching the cooking process was interesting and I was looking forward to it. Then just prior to serving they poured the thin ‘secret’ sauce all over the fries around the sandwich making very soggy fries, almost like potato soup! The owner all this time is leaning against the wall watching the money roll in and keeping an eye on his uninterested staff! I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you must experience it, ask for the fries on a separate dish. My wife however did like it. It was a boring unfriendly restaurant milking in its apparent fame!

We were told that this was a must visit for the Porto famous Francischino! Didn't know what to expect. However, we left satisfied and didn't spend a fortune for a late lunch! The desserts are good as well!

Our first time in Porto, so had to get the famous francesinha sandwich. Everyone has their favorite and our walking tour guide said she liked this one the best. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Cost to worth it rating: 3 Opentableable: no reservations taken Return worthiness: maybe Highlights: - Francesinha sandwich: we got the one with the fries and the egg. Layers of multiple meats (bologna, ham, sausage) on thick bread topped with lots of cheese and gravy with a sunny side egg up top and fries all around it. Was what I thought it would be: a lot! Very tasty and gravy wasn't too thick or thin--love it with the fries. Definitely want to share it with someone. Was fine but we tended to like other local sandwiches better. 4 stars - Have beer and sodas - No wait on an off time Lowlights: - Don't think anyone gets anything else on the menu! Glad we tried it.

A friendly store clerk recommended Santiago for the best Francesinhas in Porto (she told us that this is where the locals go, always a good sign). We visited two of the Santiagos locations on Rua de Passos, and the food at both was excellent. The first time we followed the clerk’s kind advice and each ordered a Francesinha. Heaven help us, but they were delicious and vastly filling. Definitely the place to come to eat these signature dishes of Porto! The second time we stopped at a different Santiago location, only steps from the other one, it was for lunch. We had lighter fare, a burger and a fusilli salad. Both meals were well prepared, tasty and very filling. That store clerk knew what she was talking about, and we can only follow her lead in recommending Café Santiago for excellent, satisfying food.

We were recommended this restaurant by our walking tour guide. We had to queue for 20 minutes before a table came free. The waitress was brilliant to watch, so busy, fast yet friendly. The cafe is famous for its Francesinha, so nearly everyone as ordering it. When it arrived, I was not expecting it to work, but in fact, it’s a really nice sandwich.

There’s several Santiago’s but this is the one you want to check out. Our taxi driver told us about it. Friendly service and your could tell it was a local place. They can split the “franchisca” for you if u want…

On our way from the airport, our taxi driver/new friend told us we had to try this restaurant. He told us the Franchesinha Sandwich here was voted 2nd best in Porto, the 1st place one was too far away. We had to try it. One little problem. I ate one for lunch at another place because we were out touring. After a very long day of seeing the beautiful city of Porto, we knew we still needed to go to the Cafe Santiago for dinner. The place was packed at 8pm. We ended up sitting at a 6 seater table with 4 local who did not mind. We looked at the menu and it was completely in Portugeuse with some pictures. We were a little lost to be honest. That's when our waitress Andereia came over. She was a wonderful person. She started to apologize for our seating arrangement. We laughed it off and said we enjoyed it. She then helped us pick our dinner and recommended things she thought we would enjoy. My wife had a type of beef stew served in a little ceramic pot. She loved it even if it looked like it could easily feed two people. I do not know the name of what I had, but I have included a picture. It was amazing. Basically, a really good thinner steak, topped with an easy over egg, surrounded by fries with ham and cheese topping them and 3 olives. OMG, it was delicious but once again, a lot of food. Andereia came over a couple of times to see how we were enjoying it. Not just how is everything, she really wanted to know if we liked it. She chatted with us which was nice considering she was so busy. When we left, she shook our hands and told us how nice we were and that she really hoped we enjoyed it. Stop by for the food ( oh, and the cheap prices ) but hope you get this young girl to be your waitress. She really made our night. P.S. Almost every table had a Franchesinha Sandwich on it. If the locals eat here, why wouldn't you?
