Not worth it

Food and drinks are of decent quality and price. The service was extremely slow. Extremely irritating when you are on the go.

This is definitely a place for tourists and not for the common Portuguese! The prices are terribly high, the service terribly low! There is no service to the tables outside. The tables are horribly dirty and, at the end, if you want to clear after you eat, there is a tray cart to dispose of your leftovers. this used to be a traditional café in the center of Évora, a meeting place where friends and families could see each other and talk at the end of the day and weekends. Now, due to the uncontrolled herds of tourists that invade the city, the common Portuguese can hardly afford this place. I respect tourism, but there’s a limit!

We visited this restaurant on February 10, 2023. It was a chilly day and we opted for Café Arcada as they had inside seating. As we walked in, we noticed a sign that said “We now have table service”. We started to walk back to the tables but two different workers advised us that we had to order up front. We walked over to a bakery display and looked all over for a menu. There were none to be found. We selected a quiche from the display case and drinks. The woman behind the counter advised we had to pay and come back for the food. We did exactly that, pickup up our food and proceeded to a table. Imagine our surprise when we bit into the cold quiche. We thought they would heat it! While we were sitting there, a huge, hot meal was served to another table. This meal was not in the display case. Obviously, there was a menu for some people. After, we left the uneatable quiche, we walked outside and there was a street vendor selling roasted Brazil nuts. The nuts were 1000% tastier than anything Café Arcada had to offer. If you are looking for good food, go anywhere else.

We must have looked hungry or tired, as the manager took pity on us when we walked through the door. We were trying to find a place that served a breakfast with eggs, and this cafe served a traditional breakfast of breads and coffee and juice. He directed to a table near the kitchen. The staff fixed a gorgeous skillet of eggs, thinly cut potato hash, and dark bits of ham. They completed the meal at our table. We felt so honored and we were treated so kindly. Although I cannot guarantee other patrons would receive such over-the-top service, I could not let an opportunity to HIGHLY recommend this cafe. The food was amazing, the service wonderful, and the ambiance bustling and lively.

Located on the Praca Do Giraldo which is an extremely busy area. They have a coffee and pastry counter in the front where people are lined up. In the back is a sit down restaurant with a buffet and a la carte menu. I opted for the shrimp over a salad, just ok.

This was a great place for a quick bite. The staff was really lovely and accommodating. You can either choose from a la carte or a buffet
