We ate at this beautiful old café/restaurant twice during our stay in Porto. The first time was just after our arrival in Porto on a cold, wet, gray day. We saw this place, looking very regal and inviting, near to our hotel and so we nipped in for a late lunch. We both had the Porto specialty, Francesinhas, and they were wonderfully tasty, filled with meat and covered in a heavy, spicy sauce. The server was a pleasant, efficient young woman, and we enjoyed the charm and warmth so much that we even had desserts. This was a five-star experience. Then, a few days later, weary after a long day of going up and down Porto’s many hills, we stopped at A Brasileira for an evening meal. This was, in retrospect, a dreadful mistake. We were seated in the café section by a brusque fellow, but the café is physically as pleasant as the restaurant, so we were happy. But then we sat…and sat…and sat…and sat. The waiters were around, but too busy to bother waiting on the tables. And it wasn’t just us. Two tables of four people each came in and sat, waited, and then left in disgust. A young woman seated alone also waited and waited and finally left with no meal. Sadly, after about a half hour of sitting there, we followed suit. This was a no-star experience. The moral of this sad tale of two meals is thus: go for a mid-afternoon lunch but avoid the place like the plague in the evening.

Service is slow and very expensive. A toast is one slice of thin bread. One! Croissants are good. They don’t have any chocolate milk for kids.

Avoid this hotel. It has nothing of a 5* hotel. We upgraded before getting there to a superior grand view deluxe, well, there's no view apart from the rooftops across the street, the room is small. It says coffee and tea machine....its a plastic kettle with two nescafe coffee sachets (b&b or pub Village rooms do better), USB charger broken, wake up one morning and the power went, waited an hour for them to fix it. One of the receptionists was rude and unpleasant. The breakfast area served by waiting staff that have no pleasure or interest of being there, you can wait ages to be shown a table, usually without any cutlery. Food choice basic, uninteresting. The cafeteria.....same staff attitude, lazy, unengaging, you can wait for ages to be shown a menu, then a long time for someone to see you and take an order and then a very long time for your order to appear. Not jocking more than an hour from sitting down to receive out coffees and wasn't even busy!!! This place is a true reap-off, if you have travelled and seen good hotels you'll be asking yourself how on this planet they have 5 stars. I'll stop here as I can go on and on about the bad experience that we had there, and, talking with other couples that we met they all expressed their disappointment. Avoid!

Bad service from waiters: lack of courtesy, rudeness and discrimination. The vegetable soup is tasteless and arrived cold

Went there for dinner, tempted by the smell of grilled sardines. Waited 10 minutes just to be seated while many tables were available. Then another wait for the menu, then a lifetime of waiting for the food to finally arrive. Got fries instead of the ordered mashed potatoes. Disinterested staff members, chaos...these people are just not fit for the job. On top of that I got charged too much but felt so tired by it all I didn't even bother to mention it. Just wanted to get out of there.

There are numerous bad reviews related to this restaurant and its service. We thought it couldn't be that bad so we thought we would give it a try. We'll we couldn't get the attention of the staff who seemed to be gossiping and completely ignorant to the meaning of customers waiting to be seated and waving at them to get there attention. We left in disgust. The negative is totally warranted.

This is a charming vintage establishment in an unbeatable location. It seems that there are two different rooms -cafeteria and restaurant- and a terrace. The place has a nice Liberty-style decor, and that's its main charm, it seems to lack any special atmosphere, and the staff seemed a bit indifferent. What I ordered tasted quite average, nothing exceptional. Anyway, it might be a good place for a short stop when exploring old Porto, but I wouldn´t recommend... nice place to take some photos, though.

We chose this spot because it was in a nice area and had a lovely outside space. Unfortunately, we were directed for no apparent reason to be under the cover. From then on, the service was extremely poor. We checked before sitting down that the menu had gluten free options, we were assured that it had multiple. After sitting down we did not receive service at any point, and had to go inside at several points to ask for service and had to flag down the waitress who told us she would come back (she never did). After ordering inside, we waited for over an hour for our food, which when arrived was wrong and the gluten free option did not come at all. The food that did arrive was unappealing and cold (it wasn't a complex meal, it was a ham and cheese sandwich). Finally, we were told after asking 4 times that they actually did not have gluten free options. Overall, potentially the worst service ever received and do not recommend.

We ordered 2 „Anericanos“ expecting good coffee from a proper Italian machine with just more water than an Espresso - we got Nescafé
