My recent visit to the Trapiche Bar at the Saccharum Hotel was quite disappointing. From the outset, it was unclear where and with whom to place orders, leading to confusion. The staff often ignored us, despite our efforts to get their attention. Even with few customers, the wait times were excessively long, and after a lengthy wait, our drinks never arrived. To make matters worse, the staff didn’t even offer an apology for the delays or the unserved drinks. Overall, the service needs significant improvement to meet the standards expected from a hotel of this caliber.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Trapiche Bar at the Saccharum Hotel at all. The price-performance ratio of the food is completely inadequate – if you even get what you ordered. Today, the bar was nearly empty, yet I was completely ignored at first. When someone finally came, it seemed like they didn't even want to serve us.
We waited an unbelievable 30 minutes for an iced latte and a cocktail, even though there were hardly any other guests. When we decided to cancel our order after this long wait, the staff became rude and unprofessional. It feels like someone here has forgotten who actually pays their salary.
What’s most disappointing is that the bar and the service don't match the otherwise positive image of the hotel at all. The Saccharum Hotel usually operates on a much higher level, which makes this experience all the more frustrating. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience that I would not recommend to anyone.

A nice rooftop pool bar at the top of the Saccharum hotel with a stunning view and very friendly, attentive staff. The menu had surprisingly original and elaborate dishes along with simple pool bar classics like pizza and sandwiches. On a hot day, we opted for a variety of cold and hot starters and desserts instead of main meals. The watermelon salad was an absolute highlight, thanks to its surprising texture and savory/salty contrast. I also recommend going upstairs and visiting the beautiful Chef's garden, where apparently all the ingredients of our meal were grown.

Beautiful view and conveniently located by the resort's pool, but the food is to be avoided. Just not the same quality as the rest of the options at Saccharum. Can not recommend to anyone but the hungry and desperate

nice pool bar, great view, friendly staff. only the food is not really special. I had a t-bone steak that was not the best quality, sliced too thin and came out very chewy like a shoe sole. my greek salad contained Madeiran soft cheese and not sheep cheese, it contained avocado (!) and a 1000 island dressing (!) - in other words: that was no greek salad. 3 people: 140.-€. :-(

We had our afternoon break in the hotel bar, the price is fair, and we can use the 20 euro/day refund from the hotel here, it is really nice. The view is super nice.

The Saccharum is a genuinely lovely hotel, The Trapiche restaurant has a fantastic view and the new seating is top end. Unfortunately the service and quality of food experience does not match. We have dined here on two occasions the first was acceptable but the most recent was very poor. We were able to see that our food left sitting in the service area for a considerable time. When it arrived it was tasteless. There was no crisp to the 48hr sourdough pizza base and the mousakka was very disappointing. The waitress was distinctly unfriendly. There are a lot of dining options in Calheta with good views. I would suggest it would be best to explore other options.

Great find, cozy place. Delicious pizza with friendly service. Surely a place to go back in the future.
View and vibe are very good, service unfortunately very bad. We had to go to the bar to get served twice.
We stayed at the Saccharum and this restaurant along with Calhao were the best out of few places that you could eat in, as there are very few options in the area. The food is good but quite basic. The service isn't amazing, no one informs you on how to get seated and you'll be seated for at least 5 to 10 minutes before you get any service. Masks are required in the restaurant, which I would not have known as there are no signs. I was scolded twice when I walked over from the adjacent sun-beds and tried to order with a short gentleman server, who refused to speak with me until I walked back and got mine. I wouldn't order anything special, a simple burger and chips and you can't go wrong. I had a beef steak and it was very thin and tasteless. I was on holiday, so I ordered cocktails galore which were made very bitter and tart. Each request to make the cocktails a little bit sweeter was met with a charge of 2 euros, despite this being a standard gratuity in the UK. Overall, a good restaurant for what is available.
