“Today for lunch was my first time at Cancela Velha. It was busy but no waiting, seated immediately. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was with my brother and our Portuguese language teacher. We all ordered the soup (nabissa), breads and olives and cheese appetizers, bacalhau cakes, daily special (pescado and arroz com gelho). Appetizers, soup, and daily fish and rice specials were delicious. I particularly enjoyed the rice. We ordered some traditional deserts, natas de ceu, pudin, bolo traditional. Deserts were delicious especially the natas de ceu. We ordered an apple turnover to take home for our mom. Our server said “warm it slightly and serve with ice cream”, which of course we did.
