I ate and ordered a small bottle of wine PONTE LIMA TINTO €5.50 and he brought it to me without the cork. I had to tell him to bring me another one and open it in front of me and he did. What I didn't understand is the price of the 1.5 L water that I charge. 4 euros in a plastic bottle... and you don't make customers with these mistakes.

Excellent restaurant. First time there and everything was impeccable. Starter, soup, main course, dessert and coffee. Everything is very well prepared and gives the best quality. They gained new customers, for sure. Congratulations and I recommend the visit.

THE ultimate TOURIST RIP-OFF experience. We entered into the restaurant because the menu looked appealing. We ordered a large bottle of water, they gave us a 1.5L plastic bottle of mineral water whilst other guests ordered the same and got a glass bottle. Fine. They served us a bread basket and some croquettes (fish croquette and meat croquette), which we didn’t order. I thought it was an amuse-bouche. Then we ordered a vegetable soup as entree, a bacalhau Braga style and roasted veal which was the day’s special. The food was ok, the bacalhau and chips which came with it were very oily. Taste wise there’s nothing bad to say about, just very average. Service was minimal. The shock came with the bill: plastic water bottle costed us 4.5€, bread basket 1€ (fine), croquettes 7.5€ for 6pieces, which we didn’t order !! Total bill was 56.20€. Unacceptable. We ate at a high end restaurant in Porto centre and only paid 45€ for the same amount of food and drinks. You can eat in a Michelin bib gourmand restaurant in Braga for a lesser amount too! Definitely don’t recommend. Sorry. I paid without any protest. We left and not even a goodbye from the staff.

REPLY to owners comment: Thank you for the kind explanations. I know the difference between olive oil and oily chips. Please don’t feel offended. I repeat more precisely: in my personal opinion, the chips were too oily and I ate many chips and fries in my life. In my review, I’m sharing my negative experience. It is not a complaint. I didn’t complain to the staff when we were paying the bill as I realised the cultural difference. We were very polite. You cannot expect every customer to post only positive reviews. Again, all readers, this was MY personal (negative) experience. You can make your own. Thanks for reading.

Went here as part of our tour lunch. We were served soup, fried fish balls, and for main course- liver, pork, fried potatoes, and buttered rice. Everything except the soup was extremely oily. The pork was dry and the liver was overcooked. Everything was missing seasoning. Portions were very little as well.

Braga is such a lovely city and once you have made the mandatory trip to Bom Jesus do Monte, you can enjoy the hospitality which is on offer and have a wonderful meal at O Alexandre. It's just outside the city wall but within walking distance of everything so do give it a go. Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and although they were busy , we were seated straight away and menus shown. Some complimentary croquettas were a nice touch while deciding on what to order. Shared a refreshing tomato salad to start along with a traditional panada / breaded stuffed sausage which was actually quite nice despite what it looked like. Main course of veal tenderloin was enormous for a half portion , it was enough for 2 but I managed it all as the meat was so tender and tasty. The roasted veal came with potatoes and another excellent dish, the cooking was spot on , homely and in a typical Portuguese style as you would expect from a regional restaurant. I was very impressed with everything. No room for dessert but they all looked great and homemade too. Service was attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Wine was not expensive , a nice Dão was €9, however a big bottle of water was €4, total for everything came to €57.50 . I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and would return if I ever go back to Braga.
