Recomendo a viola vivamente, sou Madeirense e vivo a alguns anos no estrangeiro. Quando vou à Madeira sempre um visito o viola. É um locar muito frequentado e por vezes temos de esperar por uma mesa mas vale a pena.
A comida é saborosa.

This restaurant is a top tip!
The skewers are extremely good! The meat is grilled to perfection and the side dishes are great too!
If you want a more extravagant alternative, you should order the T-bone steak! The meat is fried and served in pieces and you can grill it yourself on the mini grill at the table! An absolute experience!
The grilled banana is not only a feast for the eyes (it is flambéed live at the table) but also melts in the mouth!
Anyone who wants to travel to Madeira MUST eat here!
Simply great!

Restaurant Viola was fantastic. Many local people come to eat in this restaurant and few tourists
The atmosphere is a bit like a food bar, but there is something catchy about it. A large rod is attached to each table with the number of the table on it. The skewers of meat for which this restaurant is known will hang on this large rod. And rightly so, because the meat is fantastic, super tender and delicious in taste. We had the classic filet skewer, the tenderloin skewer and the chicken skewer. All delicious. The ponchas are also very nice here. The service was very friendly and nice, they came several times to ask if everything was to your liking. It was busy in the restaurant but the food was delivered very quickly. For dessert we had mango cheesecake, passion fruit cheesecake, wafer cake and chocolate mousse. All very tasty too.
There were several large numbers of Portuguese in the restaurant, but they were just chatting and eating together. However, one group was very loud, talking very loudly, laughing, singing and drumming on the tables. That was a bit of a shame. According to the waiter, this was due to the Poncha effect, or too much alcohol.
But this restaurant is highly recommended!

Kid-friendliness: The local people come here with their heke families, including children and babies in strollers.

Exceptional restaurant which will remain engraved in my memory for these simply perfect dishes.

I can only recommend the T-Bone which is so good with an excellent glass of red wine.

We went there twice because we enjoyed the meal so much.

The parking lot at the bottom is easy to access and sufficiently spacious.

We went thre after a day of hiking and we stopped by to get food as Viola is one of the most famous places for espetada.

We gave our names and we waited in a line with many others. The waiters were friendly and nice and they gave us a poncha as an entree.

Just a short 15-minute drive from Funchal lies Viola, a restaurant that food enthusiasts simply must visit. Specializing in meat skewers, Viola offers a dining experience that is both memorable and mouthwatering.

The loin steak skewers are a highlight, cooked to absolute perfection. Each piece is tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. It’s evident that the chefs here take pride in their craft, ensuring that every skewer is a delight to the senses.

And then there’s the grilled banana—an unexpected but utterly delightful treat. The combination of sweet and savory is to die for, creating a perfect balance that leaves you wanting more.

The ambiance at Viola is warm and inviting, with a cozy setting that makes you feel right at home. The staff is friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience with their excellent service.

If you’re in or around Funchal, make sure to take the short trip to Viola. This restaurant is a hidden gem, offering incredible food and a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!
