At first glance, the place is nice.
The staff seemed friendly and managed to find apple juice for the children. Restaurateurs who go out of their way to make happy customers were off to a good start.
But that was all. For 8 à la carte dishes, after an hour and fifteen minutes of waiting, we can no longer speak of slowness.
We had to call the waitress 4 times so that the children were served “quickly”, until we had to go to the kitchen to wake up the staff! The children are finally entitled to their “bitoque” which is steak, fries, rice and fried eggs.
After an hour and a half, we were finally served our steak and fried rice. Oh sorry, here we call it Picanha Tropical. All this time for such an unrefined dish is incomprehensible.
So Bitoque or Picanha is ultimately just steak and fried rice: 10 minutes of preparation.
While waiting, in the distance a waitress sets up and straightens 4 empty tables and takes care to align the chairs again and again.
Another cook takes care of a table of 15: she arrives with ONE salad in hand.
Speaking of salad, we got one. An individual bowl to share… with 6 (just like the welcome dish whose proportions were simply ridiculous).
I had the misfortune of asking for salt and mustard, after 15 minutes, still nothing, I had to become unpleasant for it to be brought to me in 30 seconds.
In short, this place is nothing exceptional. You can eat just as well and faster by going to Continente and all this for much less money.

It was a slow Thursday night, but even so, the food was delicious, with particular highlights being the eggs with baby eels, and the cuttlefish rice. These both were amazing! The service was delightful, and everyone was extremely sweet, with great recommendations and a lovely attitude. It was a perfect finale to our time in Lisbon, and we recommend all to come!

We were recommended by our daughter - an acclaimed "foodie". We have been fortunate to eat in many fine places and Taberna Moderna is "up there" We wanted gins to start and the owner quizzed on our taste preferences. A first for us. He chose a splendid gin for each of us. Interestingly for my wife a Brown's that she particularly likes and for me Citadelle Jardin d'Ete. One of mine. No prompting but spot on! We ate two nights in a row. Both times delightful The first night we took the owner's recommendations. The tuna ceviche - my wife loved but cured fish is not really to my taste. The owner was upset - genuinely- so treated me to a plate of Iberico pork that was unctuous. The following night we went off the menu, which was delightful, with a different gin as recommended. A convivial evening with two Dutch ladies at the next table. We all had a great time! Sorry about the delay in posting!
