Cafe mata bicho

We ate at Mata Bicho 3 times during our 4 days in Leiria because the food was delicious, especially the garlic prawns, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was happy to explain the strange name, which dates from colonial times and which translates literally as "kill the bug".
A lovely restaurant in a lovely location with plenty of outdoor seating and friendly, attentive staff. The attentive staff offered us some basic local snacks, which we followed by the padrons, a pasta dish, steak, salad, and some fruit as a desert. All we had was nicely cooked, albeit rather unimaginative. An extensive wine list, which the staff was very happy to help with. The end result of which was a very enjoyable bottle of Douro red. Not the best meal I’ve ever had, but...
Mata bicho is one of those restaurants that you always feel confident on a great experience. And again there was no disappointment. Great food, attention to detail, kindness to the child, the works. The food is always high quality, no matter what you chose.
