The food was no big deal. Some home cooking could be better than the offerings. Service was disappointing. The waiter showed little care about what you want. There was minimal exchange, which was so different from other local restaurants that gave greetings, asking how we liked food. It was more like eating in a factory than in a highly rated restaurant.

Nice place, decoration of the room above the average. Very good service, very nice people. Great food for a fair price, not the cheapest in town but not overpriced. Reasonable wine list priced correctly. Good deserts as expected.

I can't complain, because I called and was attended to and the order arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule.Maybe for the time I asked.But I think that if I had ordered at a busy time, I might have had a little difficulty.But it is normal.I think it's best to order in advance.So as not to have your stomach rumbling with hunger and your nerves full of anxiety.So when the snack arrives, you won't have the pleasure of enjoying it calmly and fully satisfying your desire.

A person is tired of calling and no one answers, constantly wrong orders (for example, pizza carbonara with tomato sauce without prior notice of stock out of carbonara sauce) and lack of friendliness on the phone

We ordered from an uninspired young woman. When we had placed our order we noticed a promotion sign for 2 pizzas, and asked to change it. No will whatsoever to accomodate our wishes were shown, no verbal communication about the 2 different promotions were given.. What appeared to be the owner just stood there with his back to us, 1 meter away, unwilling to fix a solution. And the pizza, No surprise, just as uninspired as the owner and worker. First and last time we order from this place. Worst service so far in Portugal

Despite having called twice before leaving the house and then I went to order at the counter, I called the employee in front of the pos. I placed the order in person when they received a call and they answered right away .. I left the house having a courier service .. it will be the last time I order from this house they seem to only serve "friends" very unhappy with the service

These are the kind of restaurants we love: Slightly old-fashioned, stylish, excellent quality food & with kind service to match. Carvalho is close to the thermal bath facilities, and the clientele is mostly on the north side of their 50ties, dressed nicely to go out to a quality establishment and determined to enjoy themselves in typical understated Portuguese and French style (no touristy boorish excesses here!!). The key waiting staff were a pleasure to see in action, they orchestrated the dining room to perfection. The female waitress with a hint of Father Ted's Mrs Doyle, but only in as far as her maternal slightly conspiratorial smile towards her clientele reminded us of her. The food was marvellous, good quality, tasty, traditional fare. The wine was excellent. The cooked pear in red wine in particular fine desert, we don't see it enough on menus these days - my husband nabbed the last one!

On a recommendation from our hotel (Castello Hotel) we booked a table for the same evening at this restaurant. Some staff seemed reluctant to serve us as we were not Portuguese. One waiter seemed to be assigned to us who could speak Spanish although we didn't need any menu help and were more than happy to give it a go. The food portion sizes were huge and we couldn't eat all of the pork and pineapple with crinkle cut chips and the beef, new potatoes, bean and cabbage vegetable dish and salad. The meat was beautifully cooked and very tasty. The dark chocolate mousse was a little too dark and bitter for my taste. The molotof dessert which my husband ate was light and airy and incredible tasty. We particularly liked the 3D cube design of the tablecloths. It was a lovely meal and on reading the information on Michelin Bib Gourmand Awards, I can see why it has it. This is defined as "exceptionally good food at moderate prices." I wouldn't say that I would rave about it though and if I returned to Chaves, I would try another restaurant.
