We loved this restaurant & visited several times. The owner and staff made us feel at home and were always joyful & helpful. The food was very good and we have tried several of the dishes, both Indian & Italian. We were very pleased with everything we ordered.

We were rather hungry and ordered three main dishes as well as one onion bahji which were all devoid of any taste

I know I have written about this absolutely wonderful Restaurant before but once you come across excellent food it’s vital to share the experience. The selection of food is amazing and suitable for so many palates. Vegan, Vegetarian, Meat and Pescatarians are well catered for as everything on the menu is adjusted on request. The same applies to preferences of heat, mild, spicy or very spicy. It is impossible to choose and recommend one dish as everything on the menu, for me, is superb. Wines, Beers etc., available. The servers are so helpful and pleasant. A special mention to Ganga whose warm welcome, attention to detail and service ensures a special evening.

The food is amazing, there are so many options and it's always a thrill to come back and try new dishes for such great prices. And I have to say, if you're a vegetarian or vegan, the menu is heaven, there are such varied and great options to choose from! The place is very humble and it could definitely use a bit more comfort and decoration,

I had a feeling that the posts concerning this establishment were too good to be true. They were all excellent so the restaurant had to be bribing the writers so, to celebrate our wedding anniversary last week, Margaret and I visited the Italian Indian Palace, Coimbra to find out for ourselves and I was proved right! WE WERE BRIBED! We were also corrupted. We were bribed with a warm welcome and a delicious lunch given with friendliness and excellent service. I’ll accept that bribe anytime. Okay. Time to get serious, because this review needs to be serious. You will note that I have given The Italian Indian Palace, Coimbra a lot of 5 stars. In the UK, Margaret and I were “Mystery Diners” and whilst we got paid the princely sum of £2 for having a free meal, we also had to write a great deal about the venue as well as the food and we really earned our £2 as well as getting fatter on Wetherspoons breakfasts but my point is this, we looked for the great, and noted the not so great but our lunch experience here was so good that the loos that needed a bit of attention and the 60’s decor have not detracted one iota from our delight and so we are already looking forward to our return. On arrival we were greeted in a friendly manner and directed to a table under the window. The waiter brought menus and took our drink orders: a large bottle of very cold water to share, a gin and tonic for Margaret and a Cobra beer for me. He asked if I wanted a large or small Cobra and I gave him ‘the look’ and he got the message. My large Cobra and the water arrived but no g&t. He demonstrated that he was clearly not trained in Portugal, because instead of bringing Margaret a lukewarm g&t and saying nothing or saying that the ice machine had packed up, he apologised for forgetting to switch the machine on earlier and would Margaret mind waiting a little while for her drink. We both thought that his honesty boded well. That bit of boding was correct. We had ordered a mixed Indian starter and Chicken Tikka for Margaret. She had drawn my attention to the mixed grill. I was surprised because in Portugal, mixed grill usually comprises various cuts of dead pig, and I am bored with Portuguese ideas about mixed grill so why was she showing me this? The reason was clear immediately. This particular dish comprised lamb, chicken and prawns, tandoori style. No dead pig. It was a no-brainer for me so the order went in. We looked at what other people were being served and they had dishes in timbales and we suspected that we would be served in a similar manner. When our first course dish came there were a variety of pickles served with it and the flavours were sublime. We both thoroughly enjoyed them, whilst looking forward to our main courses. The waiter came towards us with no tiny timbale, but a dish piled high with red meat. I mean it was really piled high and so we thought both our meals were on one dish. No! It was Margaret’s tikka, and it was sizzling. As mine hadn’t arrived I tasted hers and we were in agreement. If my mixed grill was anything close to this, we had discovered a venue to revisit. It was and we have. When my dish arrived, I think it was piled even higher and there were pieces of chicken breast, lamb kebab quenelles and plump prawns. It was totally flavoursome and for a glutton like me, it was hog-heaven and the Cobra really enhanced my enjoyment no end. We had (foolishly, some would say) also ordered special rice with vegetables and Indian cheese and Peshwari Naan so a pud was definitely out of the question. It’s a good thing the place also offer Take-Away so were prepared for my request for a doggy bag. The timbales we had seen were probably for those who had ordered the daily special. We were able to relax at the table after our meal because, unlike almost every Portuguese establishment in their price range, their seats were padded rather than the ubiquitous half-hour chairs so we sat and digested. We had seen the prices and were unsurprised to be paying just shy of €50 but it was so well worth it. When you consider that we had b

The place does not look like much, but the service was amazing and the food other-worldly, well worth the visit! Will be saved on our map for the future for sure!!
