Great experience visiting the Colares Winery. The staff is fantastic, friendly and very knowledgeable (thank you Is and Joana)!
Great opportunity to try some native grapes such as Ramisco (red) and their expression of Malvasia (white).
Definitely recommended!
Pleasant visit and purchase of good wine
Very nice winery where you can learn a lot about the history of Colares wines. Interesting for amateurs and wine professionals. The wines are really different due to sandy soils and sea influence. If possible, try to buy a few bottles because they are hard to get outside Portugal. Book a tour and tasting in advance so they can make time for you. Not cheap, but worth it!
I strongly recommend visiting this cooperative.
Always a treat to visit the Adega Regional de Colares!
Francisco is super knowledgeable and hospitable.
Tried a few different wines including the amazing DOC Colares wines grown in sandy soils.
They do host tastings and i strongly suggest to visit.
Cheers ?
This place was great! We stopped here in between sights, and they were able to accommodate our group of 7 without issue. You would not think its behind the small, skinny door and it can be easily missed but once your in, it is worth a taste. The wine was delicious, and we enjoyed listening to the history and making of their wines. We even bought 2 bottles, one red and one white. I would definitely recommend and return next time I'm in Portugal.
Disappointing. The website sayes reservations only required for parties over 10. We showed up and were offered a tasting and then bumped and told we would have to wait awhile. We left disappointed. Nothing else in the area to do.
Colares Winery, nestled in the picturesque village of Colares on Portugal’s stunning Sintra coast, offers an enchanting experience for wine enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. This historic winery, one of the oldest in the country, is renowned for its unique wines made from grapes grown in sandy soils and aged in traditional wooden vats, preserving ancient winemaking techniques that date back centuries.
A visit to Colares Winery begins with a warm welcome from the knowledgeable and passionate staff, who guide you through the fascinating history and intricate process of Colares wine production. The winery tour includes a visit to the ancient vineyards, where the rare Ramisco and Malvasia de Colares grapes are cultivated, and an exploration of the cellars, where the wines are aged to perfection.
The tasting experience at Colares Winery is nothing short of delightful. Guests are invited to sample a selection of their exceptional wines, each with distinct flavors and characteristics that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The Ramisco red wines, known for their robust and earthy notes, and the Malvasia whites, celebrated for their aromatic and crisp profile, are particular highlights.
The ambiance of Colares Winery adds to its charm, with its rustic architecture and serene surroundings providing a perfect backdrop for a leisurely afternoon of wine appreciation. The combination of history, tradition, and superb craftsmanship makes a visit to this winery a memorable and enriching experience.
In summary, Colares Winery is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in discovering the rich heritage and unique flavors of Portuguese wine. The blend of historical significance, expert craftsmanship, and exceptional wines make it a standout experience on the Sintra coast.
It's worth visiting and trying out the store, but the quality/price ratio leaves a little to be desired.Perhaps because they are not as focused on the national market, they do not have the return of regular visitors that they could have. The people on site try to help, they are knowledgeable and friendly, but I think the experience has a lot to improve!
It lacks cleanliness, but has interesting wines and friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Restaurantji Recommends
Beautiful winery, it's literally like a museum. The wine tasting was fun and delicious. Would recommend visiting. The host was lovely and her English was excellent.
It's always wonderful to visit these cellars. but only for those who like Ramisco wines. both for good wine lovers. As for restoration professionals.
The Visconde de Salreu Cellars were built by Domingos Joaquim da Silva, 1st Viscount of Salreu, in the early 1920s, with a view to exploiting Colares wine. The splendid building was designed by the architect Norte Júnior.
Just bought the wines. Will test it soon. The staff are very kindly
Finding ungrafted old-world vines produced in a traditional manner produces a very unique wine. Colores is a very special place.
