They do not serve meals. The images present are merely misleading.

We tried the prawn and clam rice. It was fresh and delicious. We ordered a salad to accompany the dish. Served in a pot to the table that stays warm through your meal. Delicate Protuguese flavours. The portions are large. The prices are moderate to high. Service was good.

The main room has a nice decor, related to the traditions. The staff very professional. But the food... amazing. We had soup that was delicious. The clams (amêijoas à Bulhão pato) divinal. And the winner: "arroz de lingueirão with Shrimps"! Congrats!!

Great local food , good value , fresh fish , great tiger prawns and some amazing fish stews and rice dishes. Quick service- gets very busy so a booking is recommended

This restaurant was such a disappointment. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. They do not take reservations. Fine. We put our name down and were told it will be about half an hour. It was an hour. Which is fine - except there is nowhere to wait inside. As dusk falls the mosquitos in Comporta are unbearable so you must wait outside - they gave our table to another woman who was incredibly pushy and pushed her way in the queue. After a hour, when we were finally seated the server came with a miserable face and was so rude. No apology about the table or the wait. The bartender was also extremely rude about the wait. And honestly, the food was mediocre and pricey. For a much better experience, ambiance, value, and delicious meal - do yourself a favour and skip this place. Go to Cafe Comporta instead. It was excellent.

We waited a while for the food but when it came it was amazing! So much seafood packed into one dish. We ordered the prawn and clam spaghetti and sole and tomato rice. One dish could feed 3 or 4 rather than two. Decor and ambience lovely too.

The food was great! But be aware of the mosquito bites! Since there are no reservations you will be forced to wait outside where there are literally hundreds of mosquitos. So you are dinner before you eat your dinner! We asked how long it would take because if we would not be asked to go inside immediately we would give up and we were told by the waiter there was a table inside and we were the next in line. We came inside to finally protect ourselves from the mosquito frenzy and we got scolded by the waiter who claimed we had to continue waiting outside, even though there was a completely empty table inside. So quite unfriendly and unapologetic staff. Needless to say we won’t go back. We would reconsider this decision if: - there would be mosquito repellent outdoors; - the staff would tell us how long was the expected waiting time so we could decide consciously; - the staff would empathize more with the situation

Typical case of a trendy place that will not get a complaint because everyone likes it. We had a good recommendation and were passing through Comporta so we made plans to arrive at 7 pm. No reservation. We got lucky with a table for two. The room was already full. The summer ‘locals’ from Lisbon, all too chic, seem to consider São João the best in Comporta. This deserves a longer review. The room is lovely with refined taste in decoration, simple but good quality—less is more—and the tables are big and beautiful. I personally love the old kitchen cupboards in white. A magazine cover spot, gorgeous to look at. But it seems it’s so trendy that their customers on vacation will not complain if something goes wrong. It’s chic to go there and not nice to call them out. They are not really fine dining but it looks like that and you pay as if it was. We asked for one of the many seafood rice dishes for mains and clams for starters. It took them some time to serve us, it was a really full room with people waiting outside, and the room is not that big. People bumping into each other because there is hardly space to move around. But because everyone is polite and charming that wasn’t an issue. The clams were not properly cleaned and after the forth we decided to send them back. Each shel contained several grains of sand, which is unacceptable for what they ask from their clients. But no one seemed to be sending them back and according to them everyone was eating the same. Most dishes there have clams. Why wasn’t anyone else complaining? It’s the trendy spot and the usuals don’t want to seem ungrateful on their holidays...? What else? To top that off the clams were pretty bland and vulgar, it’s easy to find better at half price. We saw no point in enduring the sand. They were very sorry and apologetic. After that we had about an hour of waiting until the waiter came to offer us a different starter on the house because the main was taking too long and we hadn’t eaten anything yet. She served us a chickpea salad with cod (meia desfeita) that was very over acidic. If it had been done with lemon or a really good vinegar it would be ok, we love a good pickle, but this was not good at all. Again, why was t anyone else complaining. It was edible though, but definitely not a good experience. When the main finally came we were already tired and wishing we had gone elsewhere. The fried sea-bass was terrific! Really well cooked, moist, tender and tasty. But the razor clam rice was a bit overcooked and the razor clams slightly rubbery, with a tad too much salt and frankly quite bland in depth of sea sea taste. At least the fish was really good! Overall it was a terrible experience softened by a perfectly fried bass. It should also be noted that the staff was very polite and offered the starter as an apology. We’re not coming back though… There are better places in Comporta.

The most magnificent grouper and shellfish ever. Really, REALLY good. Pork and clams with migas were amazing. This was the best food in Comporta. It’s a really busy place (victims of their own popularity, probably) we got squeezed in despite no reservation. Just magnificent food. Be sure to put on lots of mosquito spray and a knowledge of local wines will be helpful. Make sure you go here before the other tourist traps! Superb .

Quality of fish rice dish was excellent but the dish totally lacked depth of flavour. So a little disappointed. Also no salt and pepper which would have helped with seasoning.

Very flamboyant owner that must be a great chef! He loves wine and knows lots about it. The food was simple and good. Just feels like he is not really happy there. The fish was good, service OK and personnel a little timide.

Amazing! Service, food, ambiance, and more. We absolutely loved our meal here. The pot we ordered had so much seafood in it (not like the other places that had mostly rice) It was full of substance. We would go back over and over. Thank you

The best “prego” of Comporta if not Portugal(!!) (rump skirt/trip trip steak sandwich)!!! The service is so friendly and accommodating. Definitely coming back and recommend absolutely! There’s plenty of space inside if you don’t find a place outside. The sunset is great!

(Translated by Google) We have asked for fries and they have put us potato chips in a bag, when we tell the waiter that we have not ordered that, he has not wanted to remove them from the table and even so he has charged us. It is the typical site that works because there are not many more to choose from.
