During our vacation we spent two evenings at Calheta Green. The restaurant is beautifully located - with a view of the sea and quiet, green surroundings. The food was very fresh and tasty. The grill is visible to all guests. The restaurant also offers a bar. We were particularly impressed by the service of our waiter Igor. We could always trust his recommendations regarding food and drinks. His very friendly and, above all, attentive way of working stands out clearly from other locations on Madeira. After our first visit, his service persuaded us to spend our last evening in Madeira in this restaurant.
Vegetarian options: Fresh, tasty and unusual. Recommended to other vegetarians.
Parking: Approximately 15 parking spaces available
Wheelchair accessibility: You can park directly in front of the entrance. Access to the restaurant (including the terrace) is level.

Like some other reviews, I can't quite understand the good ratings. First of all, this is not exactly an authentic Portuguese restaurant where, for example, the locals go to eat. There were only “vacationers” in the restaurant itself, like us of course, so if you want to go where the locals eat, you’ve come to the wrong place. Everything wouldn't be so bad if the quality was right. But this also left something to be desired, the espetada (meat skewer with beef) was ordered medium rare upon request, but it more than came through and was relatively tough. With the espetada (and every other main course) you had to order side dishes that cost extra. In my own experience, this is implemented better in other restaurants (e.g. O Farolim), as you can choose (2) side dishes for each main course free of charge. Service was okay. Conclusion: very nice location, quality of the food not great and not exactly “authentic”. Bad value for money.

Disappointing: Reviews speak for a great restaurant, what we experienced was the opposite: changing waiters, small portions of the food, therefore very overpriced and in terms of taste it was the worst thing we ate on the island. In my opinion, on a very traditional island, it's better to go to an older restaurant and experience the real food (where locals eat too!) instead of choosing a restaurant that attracts you from the outside (there were only tourists there) and the food and service is shocking.

Ended up here by chance on the way home from a levada hike. It was our second day in Madeira and so far, a week later, we haven't found a restaurant with anywhere near good food. Meat skewers and steak were perfectly fried and especially the side dishes were fantastic. Not the boring fries and dead-cooked vegetables but fresh vegetables perfectly prepared (spinach and mushrooms) Beautiful view from the terrace, be careful, wind can be cool. I will definitely go again!
