Impressive lack of respect for customers. We were 4 people. We went in, sat down and waited. And we continue to wait. Nobody answered us, one of the people behind the counter sat drinking a beer and pretended he didn't see us.We ended up leaving.

The music was great, the singer and musicians were very talented and mesmerising. The seating situation is uncomfortable as you are squashed up against the person behind you. The drinks are good and priced ok , and no cover charge.

I went there last Sunday night (12 Nov. 2023). I do not recommend this place. I had a much better experience at Tasquinha Canto Do Fado in Sept., although I paid a good amount for the cover charge - because the singers were far better. So was the food. PROS -Free cover charge -Lovely wall decor creating a nice ambience -Intimate setting because of the tiny space, you are right by the singer Cons -The singers were very average, even subpar. -In the queue waiting outside for 45 min. -The space inside is very limited and you will literally be squished against strangers; often bums almost on top of one another. -The food is bad (15 Euros for one breakfast sausage which came with nothing else but bread)

This is definitely worth it, but I highly recommend getting there right when they open. We walked up around 7:30 and ended up waiting in line for an hour. There are not a lot of tables, and the service is a little bit on the slower side in order to allow guests to hear the live music. We were finally able to snag a spot at the bar and were able to order drinks, cheese, and chorizo. Everything we ate was delicious, and the live music was incredible. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in Lisbon, but definitely be prepared to wait if you don't get there right when they open.

When we decided to visit Lisbon, everyone said Tasca do Chico was a must — including locals we met when we arrived. And they were 100% correct — this was the best fado we’ve experienced, great food, great service, and an amazing atmosphere. Tip: get there at least 30 minutes before it opens to get a table! But even if you’re running late, it’s well worth the wait - and the fado plays all night! Truly an incredible experience — you can’t miss this if you go to Lisbon.

We saw the Fado show here and it was absolutely amazing! I cannot say enough. You must go!! It was truly an unforgettable experience. All of the locals all recommended this and it did not disappoint!

A Tasca do Ricardino is a culinary gem in Lisbon! The menu offers a delightful journey through Portuguese flavors. Each dish was a burst of taste, and the presentation was impeccable. The intimate setting and the attentive service made our evening truly special. Dining here was a highlight of our Lisbon experience.

This is a lovely place, with a great atmosphere. I visited with family, they were happy to accommodate us at very short notice, such helpful and friendly staff! They went out of their way to help with some special diet requirements, which we were very grateful for, as it made everyone feel included. The food was lovely, homemade and traditional, the music was great, including a well known fado singer who happened to be there, having dinner with friends and was happy to join in. Overall a great experience and highly recommended!

What’s wrong with you people? I almost gave up because of the reviews I read here! The place is amazing, the food is good and fado is such a religious thing that they even want you to listen to it silent and surrounded by candles. If you’re not in a group you’ll end up to dine with foreigners but I wasn’t annoyed at all, it’s fascinating indeed! Highly recommended!

NOTE: this review is about Tasca do Chico ALFAMA, Rua dos Remedios 83, NOT Tasca do Chico in the Bairro Alto: I don't know what the relationship is between the two. At 36 Euros per person for dinner and fado, you arrive at 8.30, are greeted and seated in the very small shopfront space, and fed fairly quickly. There is enough food, covering the portuguese "classics" - olives, bread and cheese, grilled chorizo, a gazpacho, bacalhau a bras, some pork stew. Most of this was good "home style" quality, served with a lot of good humour. (There is also house wine included, by the jug). Fado starts at 9.15-9.30... this is fado vadio which is vagabond or amateur fado - a style I prefer. The two guitarists are very competent. Then you might get a professional "fadista" for five songs or so, and after that it's the proprietor, the chef, the sous-chef, the neighbour (?) all having a go with great sincerity and feeling, but varying degrees of talent. This does not detract for the experience, because with fado, it's the emotion that counts - and you'll get plenty of emotion.. It's a small space - maybe 35 people tops, and the music is right up in your face. You can't expect high-level "gourmet delights" here, but it is a very honest and entertaining night out showing off a musical culture you don't get elsewhere.

I don't really understand the negative reviews, and I really think they are coming from some kind of rude capitalist expectations. This is a very traditional place with an owner who is really committed to the traditional, tavern based fado, and not the commertionalised stuff you pay your a*s of when visit. Yes, you should come early to the place (I was there right after opening, and got my place in a sunday evening among with some friendly strangers). The ordering is really slow, but it is a small bar for the maximum capacity of people, the human recourses cannot be highten up anymore, and you really want to stay 1,5 hours to get what you came for, so it's reasonable. The owner helped me get a place at the table, the special portugese soup was just fine, the beer was also ok. And then, at 8:30 pm this girl came along and made a ridiculously good atmosphere with beautiful fado singing, followed by two guys, one with a classic guitar and one with a portugese one. For 10 euros i had a nice evening with new people (a spanish couple and a nice american girl), and had a taste of saudade for 10-15 minutes. I loved that feeling. And yeah, till she was singing, even the waitresses stopped with their jobs, there was silence in the crowded room. If you'd like some high class service and getting your head rubbed, though - you should pay for some cold professional tavern with a more modern fado show. I guess it can be nice too, but too cold for me. This is tradition. (The owner - who's strictness really could be read as he was rude, but i really think he was not - was just standing at the wall while the show was running, and you could see on his face how he lives for this music. It was touching.)
