We ordered soup and salad and thought that was all we needed but the owner made us order a main course, too, so we split a miga with pork (breadcrumb loaf with pork ribs). The salads were big and the soup bowls, too, and we’d have been happy to call it a day then. Both were good but the tomatoes on the salad were nothing great. But when in Rome…. Total for lunch was 33 euro for two.

Didn’t intend to dine here, just found it as the rain started coming down hard and sought shelter. Was small and old fashioned (not a bad thing!) but with just two tables of two at lunchtime, when most other places had been fairly full as we passed by earlier. Menu was in Portuguese only, no English or Spanish translation, and neither spoken by owner/waiter. I had pork and clams, which was passable if a bit chewy, my wife had beef with salad, which she did not like at all. Also, only red wine available by glass was very rough. I later remembered hearing about an old Portuguese tradition of putting food on table as you arrive, which if you touch it, is charged. I forgot initially, as I live in Spain when you are often offered something while you wait. So when we were given bread, olives and two pieces of Spanish style tortilla, we ate them. On the bill they were 1.50, 1.00 and 4.50, respectively. Considering the meal was very poor to average at best, this was a further irritant – but maybe our fault for not knowing the custom. Having travelled down from Galicia to Seville via Portugal, unfortunately, this was the only bad meal and bad wine we experienced, which is a shame as we went back to Spain the next day.
