This restaurant is difficult to work out from the road, but if you go up the stairs next to the street view menu board you will find a pleasant outside eating area or you can eat inside, all great tables. You need to go fairly early in the evening as it tends to get busy as the food is all local, good value and well cooked. You need to be patient as sometimes the staff are busy, but the food is worth the wait. Both fish and meat dishes are excellent with generous portions. This time we discovered that it is open at lunchtime and you can have a selection of starters to share which makes a great lunch. At lunchtime it was not busy and a great place to relax.

This restaurant is a little away from the more “touristy”restaurants, a short walk uphill from Estrada Monumental. It has a quaint outside dining area perched above the road, as well as a substantial inside restaurant area, and we chose a table in a small courtyard terrace area which really nice. Service was quick and friendly, despite a large party being catered for inside the restaurant. The food was very good, and particularly so the grilled limpets starter and the mains of black scabbard fish with banana. We shared sides of fried maize and vegetables and the portions were big! The wine list was quite extensive and very reasonably priced. We plan to visit here again when next in Funchal.

We had a superb meal in this traditional restaurant whilst holidaying in Funchal, all the fish was amazing and you could tell it was freshly cooked, absolutely delicious. Service was initially a little slow when we first arrived, but once we had ordered, it was all good and flowed well. Would definately return here.

Started with the delicious local garlic bread and olives. He had the pork on a stick, which has a special table hanger, he said it was moist but lacking in flavours. I had the black scabbard fish with banana, sounds strange, but was lovely. Any veg is a side dish and is extra, ours were disappointing steamed/boiled potatoes; courgettes & green beans, potatoes were hard, not a fan of steamed courgette and all were a without flavour. He had creme caramel and said it was OK, I had delicious chocolate mousse. We sat on the roof top outside terrace, which was pleasant apart from the teeny weeny black flies. Service was OK

Our 3rd night in Madeira and a chance find on Trip advisor after a busy day it was an ideal location . Friendly welcome and allowed to sit where we liked .Menus a bit grubby so not a great first impression. The place was soon buzzing with people, which made a good atmosphere. We liked our outside table despite the brief shower. Service was attentive . The food delicious and plentiful. Loved the Passionfruit cake light as a feather a great experience well done!

We arrived here without a reservation and were able to have our pick of tables out on the terrace. My husband ordered a chicken kebab and I had a meat one. Both were traditionally marinaded and very tasty. We ordered a salad and had fries to share. Along with a large beer each, we felt the meal was reasonable.
