I decided to celebrate my birthday here and indulge in some scrumptious dishes, and let me tell you, it was absolutely fantastic! The team here is incredibly kind and welcoming. The seafood was so fresh that it felt like the fish were still swimming. I highly suggest bringing your loved ones or family here for a delightful meal. If you're a seafood lover, this is the place to be. To top it off, the team surprised me with a delicious crème brûlée. What a wonderful birthday dinner!

We chose our fish with the chef in front of the fresh fish stall, great experience and perfect cooking for the octopus and sea bream. The small potatoes were also very good. We loved it, the waiters were really smiling and pleasant for a dinner at 10:15 p.m. 100% recommended

A great discovery. You choose the fresh fish and they cook it in different ways.
It will probably be one of the best places we have eaten this summer.

The fish we had at Escama was so fresh and tasty, and the consistency was... unreal. We strongly recommend trying the ceviche (don't worry, the chefs speak English and will help you choose the best fish of the day), and also the tartare, octopus, sashimi, oysters and, as a side dish, the sweet potatoes. We randomly ended up in this restaurant on our first day in Faro and we were so happy with the food and service that we went back on the next day. We spent 35-40 € per person, exactly as one would spend in other, more touristic, restaurants in the same street.

We had a brilliant lunch at Escama. The concept is simple: they display the freshest fish on an ice counter inside the restaurant. And you choose how you’d liken the fish cooked. And if you don’t know what you want then don’t worry. The chef/patron is full of suggestions and ideas.

We had octopus charred on the open grill and served with oil and garlic. Delicious. Also a cevice of red snapper. Unbelievable.

Then for mains we had freshly grilled sardines and a big anchova (texture of sea bass but so much tastier). And a couple of small bowls of chopped tomato and cucumber salad.

The food was brilliant and very fairly priced, and the staff were so lovely and accommodating. My advice: even if you’re a bit picky or unsure about seafood, Escama is the place to go. Just trust their recommendations.

This is an original fish restaurant with a very cool concept and very tasty food. It works like a fish market (though it doesn’t smell like one, promised) where you choose what type of cooking style of fish you want, then you go to the cook/fishmonger in the bar where they expose what fish options they have and they tell you which fishes would work with that style and then you choose.

We had dinner there and the bar tender really knew about their dishes, being very passionate about her favourite. We had grilled Sargo and Bulhao Pato of sea bream with a salad side and potatoes.

This is a place with a limited set of options for fish but to the point, no hiding, just great ingredients and good simple cooking

Our favourite was the Bulhao Pato. It’s sort of a fish stew on a lemon and white wine sauce with parsley that is SO good. Please order bread, that sauce has been made for dipping. We also added the potatoes to use the last bits of it. The chef’s suggestion of using besugo for this was simply perfect.

The grilled fish was great again, cooked perfectly to the point. It was just less surprising than the other one.

The size of the fish was a tad small, but I guess that depends on the catch of the day.

We wanted some vinho verde by glasses and though they didn’t offer originally, the bar tender got us some. She was really nice.

The sides were nice, but nothing amazing.
The staff had a problem with a group that delayed a bit the service and gave us some complimentary very nice fish pate as an apology.

We have 2 small criticism though. We had dinner indoors and it was quite hot. I would suggest for them to include some ceiling fans or something, because on a hot summer night, it was a lot. Also, as you pay for the weight and type of the fish that you choose, it gets very tricky knowing how much are you going to end up paying. They don’t have prices on display for the mains in the menu. But overall I would not call it pricy

Very but very expensive. We ended up paying a huge amount of money for the fish. We had high expectations but unfortunately it was a disaster.

Walked past this place and decided to eat there. You pick fresh fish from the display, they cook it however you like.

We had 3 different fish prepared 5 ways; tartare, fried in butter, ceviche, blowtorch sashimi, grilled. Also had octopus and oysters as my nephew wanted to try them for the first time. Orange Blossom Crème Brulee for dessert.

Lovely place, the chef was really helpful in selecting the fish and also adjusted one recipe to avoid using alcohol.

Atmosphere was very chill, service was great, the food was fantastic. The Ceviche and the Tartare were our favourites. The toasted bread was gorgeous, perfect to mop up sauces. I came to faro to try the seafood and was not disappointed.

Good value for money we paid just under €40 per head for 11 different food items including sides and dessert + some soft drinks and water.

I totally recommend it. You choose the fish you want to eat and you can see how it is prepared for you. Everything is very good.

Dietary restrictions: Since we can eat grilled fish, celiacs don't have any problems. Even the dessert they have is prepared with cornstarch.

Exceptional fish - loved the experience of choosing your own fish and how you want it to be cooked. 100% recommend taking the server’s recommendations on how to cook, we split the fish in half and cooked 2 ways. Simple, flavourful and beautifully cooked - one of the best meals I’ve had in Faro.

Simply brutal!!!
A different concept of eating fish. Fantastic service from a lovely waiter.
A great explanation from the chef, who knew how to understand our taste in fish, and served us some delicacies.
If it wasn't so far from home... we would repeat, for sure!
Thanks!!!!
