By phone, we requested a table for 5 people. We are given it for 6:45 p.m. During the aperitif, our starters are served very quickly. At the same time, we were informed that the following dishes must be ordered quickly to free the table for 8:30 p.m. Not satisfied with being able to take our time to eat at ease, we settled the bill after entry. We find this attitude incorrect since we were not informed that we had to eat within a short time. The owner was indifferent to the situation.

We found our main waiter to be rude and uncommunicative; service was slow, fish was fresh and tasty, but nothing to write home about! Their per KG approach to pricing lacked transparency. Our simple main course for lunch was 32.50 each. As a matter of principle I don’t appreciate their sneaky approach to charging per butter sachet either ?

We ordered ribs. The ribs couldnt be eaten by hand they were that tough. They had to be cut. The fries were very sloppy and the price is extremely high. Worst food experience yet in Portugal. The place was nice though.

We were recommended to the O Barril from our hotel and TripAdvisor but that was fully booked due to the football games playing in the square so my partner and I discovered this hidden gem. We tend to avoid the typical tourist restaurants catered more to the English as we are on holiday and want to try new things. This place was what we were after great food and service. My partner had Portuguese steak and potato, which she loved so I had a tiny bit to try and it was really nice. I decided to order the same meal the night after but in O Barril..this was far from as nice. The menu is a bit pricier that some of the other places to eat but we managed to get a table outside, and we were able to watch the sunset and thought it was really worth the price. Brilliant meal to start off our holiday.
