Taberna Pimenta is now very high on our list of traditional Portuguese restaurants to visit when in the Vila Verde, Braga area. We chose to dine al fresco and were absolutely delighted!!! Taberna Pimenta is set in a small, quaint village surrounded by lovely greenery and rolling hills and fresh country air. From the presunto, olives and country-style corn bread to the grilled codfish dish to the fried pork cubes and "bolachos" accompanied by their in- house vinho verde: so fresh, so delicious!!! The service provided to us was absolutely exceptional!!! Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation. We cannot wait to return!!!

A find, a "secret of Portugal". A house open since 1949, at the time, a grocery store, which was called "Benda" (sale), and where snacks and wine produced by the house and in the region were served at the time. Unpretentious space, somewhat uncharacteristic room, but what I experienced there is magical. "I fell" here this first time on the recommendation of a local resident. I arrived and it was already lunch time. I was immediately welcomed by D. Olívia Pimenta, a descendant of the creators of this house. A joy of person, fantastic hostess, very charismatic. My father and I did not hesitate to leave ourselves in the hands of Dona Olivia and we followed all her suggestions. To start, some rojões made in lard, very tasty and well seasoned with sweet pepper. Then, a delicious soup, with carrots cut into "Juliana", onion, various vegetables, especially the kale, a delight, which made us feel very comfortable right away. Meanwhile, the cod, which was roasted in a wood-fired oven and presented to us at the table by Dona Olivia, is absolutely majestic. Enormous platter, where rests, in a generous lake of high quality extra virgin olive oil and garlic, an imposing piece of special codfish that even seemed to me to be "Jumbo" codfish, from the "cabeço" area and complete badana, and yet another steak, smaller loin, but still very generous and with a little more "soaking" on purpose for my father. All accompanied by a potato of excellent quality, perfectly cooked and, of course, the onion also on point, very good, quite soft with a "glazed" aspect in a perfect balance. The cod, this one was perfect, roasting on point, very "flaking", very unctuous and very tasty. To accompany, we tasted a 2021 red green wine, produced locally, from old vines, conducted in ramada (or trellis), from old grape varieties such as Vinhão Antigo, Borraçal, Moorisco and other old grape varieties. Although it is too young a wine, it already has an excellent drink with the soul of the region. Finally, for dessert, we immediately accepted the hostess's suggestion, the "soups of tired horse", the wine, served in the mesh, where the cornbread, just out of the oven, and a little sugar is dipped. Excellent delicacy for Invenrno. A delight. We also tasted the red Vinho Verde of the year 2020, which was excellent, very sweet to drink. We finished with a good espresso while D. Olivia packed us almost half of the codfish portion that was left to bring home.A house, where you feel, above all, very good energy and where you are welcomed by someone who loves what he does, loves Portuguese cuisine and knows how to welcome you so well.I'll be back soon.
