I’m a bit mystified by the 4.8 rating for this place.
I think it’s fake news.
Our server didn’t speak much English to the point that she sent us the wrong items.
Then when our starter finally arrived it was as bland as can be. Probably the most unremarkable and tasteless ceviche I’ve ever tried.
The mains weren’t much better. Overcooked duck. Fatty mashed potatoes and asparagus that looked like it had been cooked inside a volcano.
To be so incompetent with such basic foods is a bad reflection on the chef, kitchen and restaurant as a whole, especially considering how poor the excuses were from the waiting staff.
Do better. Your prices are ridiculously high for such a mediocre restaurant.

A charming little restaurant seating 20 with a cozy bistro atmosphere. A beautiful place for a romantic moment!
The dishes are of finesse and perfect mastery of flavors. For example, I want the piri piri octopus which is soft in the mouth and just seasoned just right.
The meat is perfectly cooked and the accompaniments are top notch.
I highly recommend it!

In short: -5-star food, average prices, 1-star service with indulgence. I arrived at 5 Sentidos with a reservation, tired, on the last evening of my holiday in Madeira, this restaurant being very close to the place where we were staying. I received a different starter than what I ordered, it was good. While waiting for the marinated fish, which was actually the ordered starter, we found a waitress coming (not the one who took the order) and quickly leaving us the main dishes. My wife got the wine, I was a little lucky and left without my drink. The two waitresses who served were very much on the run, they did not notice any gesture.
After I ate, they realized their mistake and asked me if I still wanted it, but his time had passed. In the end, they offended me by giving me a 5 euro discount that I hadn't requested.
I'd rather apologize with a smile than discount(but smiles are not on the menu at this restaurant) and apologize with a bored attitude.
I haven't experienced this in popular restaurants either, I certainly didn't expect it here.

One of the best restaurants we've ever visited. Not only is the food incredible, but the people are incredibly dedicated. We repeated it several times on our vacations. They always made fresh soups for us, suitable for our baby without salt and with fish or meat. Without a doubt, a place to visit again when we return to Funchal!
