We called here for a couple of cokes on our first trip into Funchal. Service was friendly and quick and the location was great for people watching. The food looked great value for money and I liked the look of the traditional Bolo de caco sandwiches which I will definitely try before we leave. The only down side of this area is the number of beggars. I was pounced upon as soon as I got my purse out of my bag to pay so beware. They only target tourists.

Probably the weakest bolo for caco we tried in Madeira. We ordered a takeaway as we were in a hurry - the lady said we had to wait 2-3 minutes which of course became 20.The rolls were dry, no garlic butter time at all. The version with meat marinated in wine and garlic had only a whole twig left over from some spice and pieces of paper from the packaging

You might find a cheaper “prego” or one that is more garlic enhanced, but I’d challenge you to find a place that has a better “total package” experience. We snagged a table under an umbrella and ordered up a couple large Corals. The beer came out quick so my partner went with the steak while I did the pork especial and of course a couple more big beers. To my taste the sandwiches were spot on. Tender enough meat, unwilted lettuce a tasty tomato and enough garlic/spiciness to keep it interesting. I like the sidewalk atmosphere and figure that 4 beers, 2 sandwiches and a great place to hang for 30 euros is a beautiful thing.
