We had the most incredible dinner at this restaurant. The food was perfect - the steak and octopus were perfectly cooked and flavoured. The serve was exceptional - a special thank you to Filipe and Bernardo for their kindness. They did not rush us at all and provided seamless service. Absolutely recommend for a lovely evening.

You don't see it from the outside, but upon entering it is quite a chic affair. Since we weren't very hungry, we only had the main menu. Steak and parrot fish fillet. The food was good, but if you are hungry it is a bit lacking. For us, it's just a bit chic, you have to like that and it is of course very personal.

We had a nice Christmas dinner. The day before we went elsewhere and had a spectacular experience which set a very high bar. In comparison, at A Morgandinha, the experience was fine but not extraordinary. We do appreciate though that people work on Christmas Day to enable such a dinner to take place. So kudos to the staff.

Tucked away in a quiet street a stone's throw from La Vie shopping mall but well worth the 5 euro cab fare as it's hard to find on your first visit. For central Funchal, an oasis of calm as the windows provide an enchanting view of the sub tropical gardens of the excellent 5 star Quintinha Sao João. The atmosphere here is relaxing smart. The table settings are elegant, the waiting staff poised, but welcoming, attentive, and extremely efficient. The menu is very varied, offering the best of both local and international dishes. There is an excellent choice of meat and fowl plus a superb selection of fresh local fish and seafood. The cooking and presentation of each course is a true delight. There is a remarkable good wine list which features some of the very finest Portuguese regions and producers. The restaurant manager, the charming Filipe is always on hand to offer advice on the best pairings for your menu choices. Should you have space for a pudding, the selection available is a tempting delight. For this standard of fine dining, the pricing of food and wines is delightfully modest and offers quite exceptional value. A Morgadinha is one of my favourite restaurants in Madeira and a treasured delight.
