Really enjoyed the food. Great ambience with a pianist playing. Service was good but felt a little rushed. The main course came out before we had finished eating the bread and my chicken was not as hot as I would have liked. However, the desserts were amazing!

Alfama is part of the portobay resort and they serve excellent Portuguese food ? Dishes are well presented and it's tasty & delicious! The staff was pretty friendly and they managed to accommodate for a toddler even in the evening ?

This is the second in house restaurant of the Portobay group of hotels in Lido, situated in The Eden Mare. Be aware, it’s a restaurant which serves breakfast in the mornings, and is set up to do so, however it’s cosy and a nice environment to be in. I don’t rate this as A La Carte, but a restaurant that serves good, tasty food prepared to a high standard. No dress code, apart from no shorts for men. If you are a prestige member of Portobay, then it’s worth using it, but if no discounts apply to you, then there are better out there at better prices. Saying that, we used it three times and had no complaints. Had great fun with the staff, who we knew anyway, but the atmosphere is like a dentists waiting room.

Tricky one to review. Firstly, the food was very good and no complaints with regards to quality or quantity. However, the waiting on staff were all over the place. We ordered cocktails and asked for the food to come out after the cocktails but starters appeared before the drinks. The main course likewise came before cocktails had finished. It all was very rushed. Waiters were very task specific. If you asked for something which was not their job they had to go off and find someone. Inevitably caused a delay. To cap it all we were overcharged for drinks we never had. Food good, service too random.

While the weather is good, the Alfama team conduct service in a peaceful outdoor setting. The team are friendly and v knowledgeable and are happy to chat about food selections / advise on what they enjoy and will recommend. Service is faultless - from the team in the kitchen to those at front of house, they really do aim to please and do not disappoint in any way. Chef delivers some of the most delicious meals and each with a design and presentation that almost stop you from eating as they are so beautifully presented. Up until this year, I had always eaten in the sister restaurants (Atlantida / Basilico) but never the Alfama. It seems I have been missing out on fantastic food and and a great atmosphere for a long time and I will be aiming to remedy this as much as possible from now on. P.S. LEAVE ROOM FOR DESERT ! They are heaven and chefs choccies with the coffee . . . I want more !!!!

Currently staying at the Hotel Porto Mare which Alfama is one of their A La Carte restaurants. We booked a meal package that included a 3 course meal in Alfama . Got to say the food was some of the best we have had in Funchal absolutely stunning. Great service nice relaxed atmosphere and fantastic presentation.. Anyone staying at Porto Mare must make a reservation

It was fairly quiet when we ate here on a Thursday evening out of school holiday time, so it was disappointing that the staff weren't very attentive.Although it is nice that they were spending time chatting to customers who were obviously regulars, this shouldn't come at the expense of others who may themselves become regulars.After being seated with the menu it took quite some time before someone eventually came to take our order. I understand that it then takes a while for the food to arrive, as it is cooked fresh, however we shouldn't have had to get up from the table to find the waiter to get our drink order.The food though was excellent, very flavoursome, well presented and the pork ribs had a generous amount of meat on them.
