The Armazém do Sal restaurant in Funchal is located in a typical alley and offers a rustic and elegant setting. it is recognized for its high-quality cuisine, with fish, seafood, meat and pasta dishes, as well as tempting desserts. The servers are friendly and very attentive. I would just put a caveat on the quantities.

Parking: It is difficult to get around Funchal. Paid parking is recommended

Kid-friendliness: It is suitable for children there are special menus for them

Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs in the restaurant.

Look, the food was really good. They perfected the fish dishes. The problem was the tasting course. All plates came out with inconsistent timing. Some dishes took 30 minutes, some 2 minutes. This was very frustrating, and was too long of a wait.

A disappointment. We went because it was recommended to us in several places, and we left very upset.
Food: dishes without consistency in their flavors and very poorly cooked product
Service: correct, without further ado
Price: extremely expensive considering the dishes they serve. We have chosen the “Extra value menu” which consists of a starter, main and dessert. Only the bread with oil that they serve as a courtesy has been saved
Waiting time: fatal. 40 minutes between the starter and the main. 20 minutes between main and dessert

I definitely would not recommend this restaurant at all.

If you like to enjoy eating, this is not your place. We were guided by the reviews on the site and it was a disappointment, flavor combinations that don't stick, fish more done than a shoe... on top of that, it took a long time between dishes. It hurt us to pay so much for what we ate. I do not recommend it.

It's an okay good restaurant that has wrapped itself up in a fine dining guise without really doing anything more for it. The food isn't bad, it's average. The only thing that veers towards fine dining here is the presentation. No cooking points hit, no character, no complexity. Plus a super busy and loud atmosphere. The service was extremely difficult to understand due to the acoustics. How this restaurant can get into the Michelin Guide is a mystery to me. Here, fine dining is used as a showcase without really offering it.

We were greeted by two miniature ciabatta, a teaspoon of olive oil, a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar and a miniature version of a piece of herb butter (the whole thing for 8 euros without us being pointed out). The foreign ceviche was stewing in a sauce that tasted neither of leche de tigre nor of lime, and was also very sad about the wakame salad, which doesn't belong there at all. When we asked one of the four (albeit friendly waiters) who alternately served us in confusion as to what type of fish was used, we had to ask again in the kitchen and, beyond this request, the wine was also forgotten. A sad softshell crab lay lonely and tasteless on a hard lump of hummus that was probably added to the plate early in the morning. Overall, the dishes were what is called 'convenience food', namely, they had been prepared in the kitchen for a long time, except for the quickly fried or fried things. Unfortunately, the pretty nice interior doesn't help either; the shop is unfortunately a tourist trap and it's completely incomprehensible to us why it's even mentioned in the Michelin Guide. We felt a little sorry for the nice money.

Delightful staff. The best indicator of good service is how they solve a mistake, in our case MY mistake. I forgot to ask for an inside table and they immediately created one for us. Superb. The food as ever was delicious. We try to eat here when we are on Madeira.

I was there tonight with my family and we had a great time. The food was amazing, everything tasted excellent as I would have expected from a Michelin Guide recommended Restaurant. The next time I‘m in Madeira I will 100% come back with friends to enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by great service. Best regards F.I.

I am quite dissapointed with the visit as we have read positive reviews and expected a nice dinner. We have taken the gastronomic tour set dinner and as I am pregnant we have asked if the menu could be adapted to my condition ( no raw seafood/meet) and the waiter told yes,that she would inform the chef. And every single dish except the dessert came as raw/not well cooked. This was really sad, we could not enjoy the dinner together with my husband as each time they had to recook my plate, and they forgot about my last course. I think that for this price and reputation the place can do much much better.

Discovered this restaurant by chance, we decided to go inside that evening. It looks rustic, with a lot of charm, it is a combination of stone and wood and modern art. We found it nice that the tables had enough distance.
The service was trained, sometimes seemed a bit stiff on the part of the female staff
The food was excellent, great taste compositions, good affordable wines. A successful evening for us. We were almost the last guests, the music that was being played was very rhythmic, the male service staff were in a good mood and lively and did a little dancing at the bar, which may not be appropriate for many people in a restaurant like this.
No problem for me, I was elated myself, had a great, enjoyable evening and sang along as I said goodbye.
We would visit this great restaurant again at any time.

Don’t ever go here. I can’t be more clear. Apparently the restaurant was bought by someone recently and since then the place has gone down hill. We waited about an hour just to receive the menus, which where an absolute mess and somehow sticky. Then we received some sort of brown mess as an amuse bouche which was just revolting. The starters weren’t that much better. But the mains were unspeakable. I apologise for taking the pictures after tasting but the presentation wasn’t much better. One is of a bisque which, as you can see by the colour wasn’t quite right, and was pungent in the most unsettling way. The other is of the ravioli in which the dough was as thick as a brick and had the taste of sandpaper. To make the experience even better (and at this point it was simply comical) the waiters joined in our communal laughter of the general spectacle.
Once again don’t go here unless you want to experience the worst meal of your life.

We had reservation under name of Phil walker . I brought my partner to have dinner and the following happened;

Dirty glasses
No menus
Ask for wine menu and 30 minute later no menus . They sent me an email asking me about my experience . No experience at all . My partner work in the hospitality industry for luxury brand . He mentioned to me that this business need immediate attention . We end up leaving since no one came to our table, no menu not even water . End up going to taverna ruel “ part of their group “ and it was our second time going there . Outstanding food and beverage service . Above and beyond staff knowledge about food and beverage with upselling skills . We make our upcoming dinner of 7 people with them as Armazem Do Sal dropped the ball.
