Half of the options on the vegetarian a la carte menu can be made vegan. None of the desserts can be made vegan however they kindly whipped us up a chocolate mousse with red fruits, it was delicious. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Food is on the pricey side and has an upmarket feel. Beautiful view out to sea.
From start to finish amazing host, made us all feel very comfortable, food was spectacular.

10/10 there is nothing wrong with it! The food was excellent and the staff were very accommodating and really great. The ASUS view from the terrace is also beautiful. Gladly again (reserving in advance is an advantage)

Amazing food, service and ambience. Not our first visit and won’t be our last.

Our fresh pasta with meat ragout was plain watery pasta with beef minced meat and we got it a bit warm, almost cold. Service was so bad, we had to wait for our bottle of wine for half an hour and found out it was forgotten. When the wine was finished, no one offered another bottle or any other drink. Also, we ordered a cocktail, which we didn’t get in 20 minutes or more.
Child’s food was so fat and without any salt and taste at all.
This restaurant was marked with Michelin sign, but it doesn’t worth visiting at all.

We visited Avista three times during our thirteen days in Madeira and enjoyed every visit, to the extent that we did not recognise the negative comments in some other reviews. On each occasion our meals were outstanding (each course was stunning but my last meal of beef tartare, tuna on the josper with barbecued pineapple and mashed potato (inspired by Joel Robuchon), and crème brûlée was simply stunning. The service was also outstanding and while it is probably unfair to identify one person, I will - our favourite darts player merits special attention and we look forward to hearing how he did in the nationals during our next visit.
So, to put it simply, Avista is stunning and unequivocally our favourite restaurant.

Great atmosphere. Very good fish dishes. Catch of the day is always a recommendation. Very good wines can also be ordered by the glass. Top service

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I had to deduct 3 stars due to the serious lapses in service towards the end of our evening.
The quality of the food was excellent but we had to wait up to 30 minutes in between dishes for our 6 course meal. It really ruined the vibe and momentum of our dinner having to ask when our next course is arriving repeatedly.
Furthermore, I had contacted the restaurant well in advance to let them know it was my partner’s birthday and I wanted a cake / something special for her. They affirmed this request by email and again verbally as I entered.
They just plain forgot and brought us our food, despite me reminding the waiting staff TWICE.
Then all the waiting staff miraculously disappeared after our 4th course and everyone around us seemed to have trouble getting served apart from two large tables that seemed to be getting all the priority and attention from the staff and the restaurant manager - a man I took a dislike to as, he made no effort to rectify the poor errors in service and forgetfulness of his staff. Another pseudo sophisticated, vertically-challenged charlatan in a suit who can’t run a restaurant floor properly.
I might add, we were not the only ones complaining about the shockingly absent service levels at the end of the night. I saw several other customers having heated exchanges with the staff as we were leaving.
Overall, great food and a nice view but not high level service.

The dishes are excellent. The service is excellent. For a midday lunch, the setting is incredible with a superb view of the sea and Funchal. I highly recommend.

Attentive service from start to finish! 10/10 - and even with the detail to hang your handbag ?! Delicious & fine dishes.
On the other hand, it's difficult to book via Google before 10 p.m. - go through your hotel and you will have a table ?
I recommend the rosé: quinta do poco do lobo - as good as a Minuty and in a green bottle! Surprising!

This first-class restaurant? offers dream views of the sea and the city of Funchal ?️
The staff is admirably helpful and attentive. The food is presented in a unique way, with a perfect mix of flavors that will delight your taste buds, super fresh and delicious. I chose this place for a surprise couple's anniversary celebration, and it was a success. WE LOVE IT! Of course, it was also because the staff made our night splendidly romantic and unforgettable ?
We ate with the tasting menu and it was the best decision, everything was great.

A wonderful place on an island that has already conquered us for several years. Exceptional, refined and subtle cuisine. Many French restaurants should come and find inspiration here! The site is exceptional! THANKS!
