The food is good although it doesn't justify the exorbitant price charged. The service is bad and most of the staff do not speak Portuguese.

Service it’s always very friendly and definitely the best coffee I’ve tasted on the island. Great location too. Patisserie selection is very good also.

Very long service time despite not a full venue. Food very average with prices well above local restaurant prices. Experience I will not come again to:)

After walking a lot, trying to find a restaurant where the tables weren't separated by just 10 cm, being forced to overhear other people's conversations, and avoiding the waiters who pounce on tourists in the old town with the menu in hand, we stumbled upon this place. The "espada" with banana was excellent, with a special mention for the accompanying sauce. The "á cervejaria" cod was also very good. The waiter was attentive and helpful. The location is unbeatable. Highly recommended for the quality-to-price ratio and especially recommended for those who don't want to feel crowded during dinner.

We came here a few years ago and it looked promising. Lovely decor and well situated. It has all the makings for a profitable business. However, Madeiras tourist industry has boomed and there are not only more tourists but certainly more choices regarding food and drink. If there is one thing I’ve learned but failed to remember is that if a cafe/restaurant has few customers there is a reason and this restaurant is no exception. There were only a handful of people at midday and that speaks volumes. We waited nearly forty minutes for two breakfast Royals which consisted of traditional bread toasted with salmon, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce. When it arrived (five minutes between each plate) the poached egg was hard. The toast was rock solid and the hollandaise sauce was obviously pre-made with a thick crust developed where it had been placed under a heat lamp. To add insult, the fish and food were cold. My friend failed slightly better as her egg was actually slightly runny. This business clearly does not employ an actual chef, terrible terrible food and equally poor service from the waiting staff. I would strongly suggest you find somewhere else to have a meal. The business needs to consider removing its existing chef, employing a decent supervisor to monitor the waiting staff and reboot what could be a brilliant business due to its decor and location. It’s a big fat no from me and my friends.

Food was tasteless and poorly prepared. Service was friendly, but the chef came to ask what was wrong with the food in an accusatory tone.Received a new dish and didn't have to pay for others, that was fair.Not recommended, there are much better restaurants in Funchal (see my other reviews).

Hey, I don't normally write reviews, however something happened to me here that has never happened to me before.I describe the situation:I come to this restaurant (5th time) as I have done many times before.The dishes were usually tasty, not outstanding but so good that one has gladly visited this restaurant again.This time I ordered a fillet steak MEDIUM COOKED. The food came after about half an hour, I cut the steak and it was completely overcooked (WELL-WELL-WELL-DONE), really so overcooked that you could hardly get through with the knife.I reported this to a waiter, he apologized and immediately gave me a new one. The second steak looked externally like from the garbage can (not appetizing) and from the inside we do not even need to talk (again completely overcooked).I have again informed a waiter and this I had to explain in detail what MEDIUM COOKED means. (Up to here still everything okay, anything can happen).The third steak was completely raw, even cold from the inside. Now I have returned the third steak and also did not want a new one. (Here still everything ok, any restaurant can have a lousy day).Now the bill:Steak was charged. (I have not touched a steak, not eaten a bite), then of course I pointed out to the waiter that none of these steaks was edible. The waiter fetched directly the manager.And now the experience started:The manager came at me like an angry animal, became vocal, and started yelling at me.I can't mention everything in detail, however, there was no talking to the manager, he wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise (I was very calm the whole time and tried to calm him down) - No chance.According to him, and I quote, "If you want to eat a steak the way you want it, you have to make it yourself at home."5 min later the manager came with a new bill. Here were now all 3 non-edible steaks on it.Since then, I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone and have decided to write this review so that something like this does not happen to others.

Goede wijn en een nog betere ober! Wij zijn tijdens ons korte verblijf 3x teruggekeerd naar deze plek. Steeds bediening gekregen van een ober genaamd Afonso. Was SUPER vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Wanneer wij niet wisten welke wijn te kiezen kon hij er een goede aanraden. De keer nadien wist hij ook nog welke wij reeds geproefd hadden en kon hij andere suggesties geven. Viel steeds in de smaak! Afonso je bent een topper! Wij komen zeker terug door jou bediening! obregada! :)

Heel leuk! Lekkere wijn! Vriendelijk personeel, vooral Afonso. Wij werden tweemaal door hem bediend. Hij raadde bepaalde wijnen aan en stond er steeds met een lach. Hij gaf ons een zeer welkom gevoel :)

Excellent restaurant in a prime location . Price's are very reasonable the food tastes amazing and is good quality also well presented . Highly recommend this restaurant.
