Chef Guru Indian Restaurant

The best food we had in Funchal so far. There is a separate vegan menu. The staff is very nice and you get a starter for free while waiting for your food. Not only the food was nice but also the experience definitely worth to ho there. I recommend this option

It's a nice little restaurant with some tables inside and outside. Staff is very friendly. As others wrote: ask for the vegan menu. Staff made sure to tell me what was vegan and what wasn't when it came to the free things they give you: first you'll get some papadam with 2 sauces (only the mango one is vegan) and then you get sth else (no clue what it was) that was serviced with dry ice = interesting experience. We ordered the pakora for starters and 2 curries as well as some bread with it. Including two drinks we paid about 50 euros. Would go again, nice experience!

Restaurant has a seperate vegan menu - jusf ask for it. Food is really tasty and the staff is really nice and helpful and they can accomodate your level of spicyness. We went there several times and enjoyed each one. Would give five stars if possible. Updated from previous review on 2025-09-29

Has a separate menu for vegans. Everything I ate was very delicous. Friendly staff. So I do highly recommend the Chef Guru.

I ordered takeaway because I was tired from hiking. I ordered the chickpeas spiced and caron seeds with onion and tomato gravy (13,90€) and french fries (3,90€) . It took maybe 10 minutes. There are several vegan options. The food tasted good.

We had Chana Masala and Daal and it was very good! Serving Sizes are a little bit small.

All the food was really tasty. Only giving 4 stars as we requested everything to be made spicy and it still wasn't spicy to our taste. Lovely balcony space to sit.

The first time we came to an Indian restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. All very delicious and a super familiar and friendly treatment. They gave us two starters while the dishes came, although the truth is that they brought them out very quickly. It's a pleasure to go to places where they serve you so well. Price quality is great. If you have never tried it, I recommend it.

I am vegan so ordered samosa and masala, if you are normal human one main is enough believe me. The staff were super nice but I was disappointed as
1. They charged me for bread that I was sure was part of the meal as my order was taken and I wouldn’t have ordered if I knew it’s not part of it
2. The was a very hard thing inside the bread that the staff explained was cinnamon stick and apologized multiple times. You should warn customers that they might bite something hard
3. You added service to the bill just like that

They gave me a free small starter and food was good but sadly won’t be coming back here

We have just eaten at the Chef Guru and had a wonderful meal. We booked ahead as there were 10 of us, 6 adults and 4 children. The staff were friendly and helpful, explaining the food to us. We were served with dishes of complimentary popadoms and amuse bouche which were delicious. This was followed by our chosen food which was delicious. The portion sizes were plentiful and scrumptious. You could easily pass this restaurant if you didn't know it was there but definitely worth looking out for. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Incredibly delicious food you often have to look for such a good Indian restaurant. The portions are large and of good quality, and you get something from home for free to whet your appetite. I'm not sure what it was but it completely surprised me, totally delicious! The price is totally reasonable, not too expensive even though it is so good. I'll go there again in a few days.
