Me and six friends ate here on our first day in Madeira and it was a treat. Excellent service from the second we walked in and such a lovely experience. Food was delicious, I had the scallop pasta, friends also loved the sea bass and octopus risotto. Would absolutely recommend.

This place is absolute disappointment. Don’t be seduced that it was mention in Michelin guide in 2018, food is conventional and portions are small but price is two times more than in normal place. Moreover you will be charged with 22% tax for alcohol and 12% for food and you are not warned about it in menu. And in the end waiter gave us for small pastels de nata, of course we decided it’s a complement from restaurant but than it was also included in menu(pastels were not good). I strongly do not recommend this place because of all these cheap tricks directed only to cut extra money from tourists. Such places just leave bad impressions about food country.
A tourist trap. The presentation of the dishes was monotonous, the side dishes for 4 different dishes ordered were absolutely identical. They include a 22% tip (tax) in the bill without saying anything about it, and there was no information about it on the menu either. At the end of the dinner they brought us microscopic cakes that looked like a compliment, for which we were later billed. Such establishments spoil the impression of Portugal, which is generally hospitable. This was the first time we encountered this in Portugal.

Fantastic restaurant. I love going to Dona Amelia and it’s always a highlight when visiting Madeira. The food, service and ambience are all perfect. We went on Christmas Eve as a treat and were not disappointed! Dona Amelia is the standard all restaurants should strive to reach.

Researched this restaurant and was not disappointed at all. Seated upstairs and able to watch chefs cooking. Rudi was excellent front of house - happy to answer all our questions and even found out information for us about the background of the name of the restaurant. All staff were very courteous and their English excellent. I had the pork filed flambéed in Dona Josefina served with sweet potato and veg. Hubby had the calves liver with a reduced onion gravy with sweet potato and veg. Shared a passion fruit sorbet ice cream. Both had half bottles of wine - first time I’ve had a green wine (young white). It wit be the last. Complimentary traditional custard tarts with cinnamon. Thoroughly enjoyable dinner

Excellent & very professional staff. Pork main course was very good. Prawn & Avocado starters ok but wouldn’t have them again - not enough prawns & avocado in amongst a plate of general salad and neither prawns nor avocado were the tastiest either. Fortunately the pork saved the day - tender pieces cooked in a nice rich mushroom sauce.
