We had the pleasure of dining at Il Gallo d'Oro in Funchal and overall our experience was almost flawless. The sommelier was exceptionally competent and accompanied us perfectly through the evening with an impressive selection of wines. The service was attentive, friendly and always professional, which made our evening very pleasant.

The presentation of the food was of the highest standard – each dish was served with great attention to detail and was a real feast for the eyes. The kitchen presented us with consistently very good dishes, all of which tasted excellent. The quality and freshness of the ingredients were clearly noticeable, and the combinations were well thought out and harmonious.

Despite all these positive aspects, we were missing a certain highlight, a special kick that we are used to from other restaurants of this class. Maybe it was that last spark of creativity or that one dish that absolutely blew us away. Nevertheless, our visit to Il Gallo d'Oro was a culinary experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Overall, an excellent restaurant that just falls short of perfection. We'd love to come back!

This was my first time eating at a Michelin star restaurant and it did not disappoint! The taste and presentation of the food was beyond my expectations, and the staff were kind, knowledgeable, and attentive.

There was one negative though, and I think it came down to lack of communication/transparency about drink prices. We were asked if we wanted to start the meal with a glass of champagne, and it turned out that the two glasses were over €50 each. If we knew the price of that glass, we would asked for a comparable alternative rather than saying yes.

But overall we really enjoyed our experience at this restaurant and the chef was very nice!

food perfect, young boy was taking care of our table for 5 PAX, little bit nervous, making some mistakes, atmosphere and decoration not that original, nothing special, no open kitchen live cooking, somelier professional but little bit impassive

Overall good and impeccable service, however it lacks generosity. In fact, each plate is barely bigger than an amuse bouche (8-course menu). The quality/quantity/price ratio is disappointing for a 2 star. We have had better experiences in 1etoile restaurants, too bad!

I visited this 2-star Michelin restaurant on Madeira Island, touted as the most expensive dining option in the area. Despite the prestigious 2-star rating and high expectations, the experience was a huge letdown.

Firstly, the setting left much to be desired. While seated outside, I couldn't help but notice the poorly maintained vegetation that surrounded the dining area: shabby bushes and unkempt flowers that certainly didn't match the exorbitant price tag of the meal. This neglected garden detracted from what should have been a premium environment.

The restaurant itself was surprisingly quite empty, raising questions about its popularity and demand. Service was professional, as expected in such a place, but that's where the positives end. The gastronomic journey, which spanned three hours and numerous courses, was largely anticlimactic. The majority of the dishes were mediocre, and their flavors no more exciting than what one might whip up at home, far from the expected culinary fireworks of a Michelin-starred venue.

Ironically, one of the more memorable dishes was simply an assortment of bread, butter, and salts. While presented nicely, it was essentially just bread and butter, and it didn't taste any better than what you'd find at a supermarket.

The pacing between the courses was painfully slow, with waits of 20 minutes or more, which was especially frustrating given that the courses themselves were unremarkable. After about ten dishes, I left the restaurant feeling just as hungry as when I arrived.

Overall, this was not just a disappointment but a regrettable waste of time and money. The food, while beautifully presented, failed to deliver on taste and satisfaction.

If this is your first foray into Michelin-starred dining, I would advise skipping this place to avoid tainting your view of what such an experience can offer. There are undoubtedly better culinary experiences to be had on Madeira Island. Save yourself the disappointment and explore other dining options.

Parking: Plenty of parking in the private parking of the restaurant.

2 michelin stars and no doubt that they deserve them, we had a wonderful evening. The food was beautiful and fresh, with many ingredients sourced from the island. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere while keeping high level of serving . Beautiful sights over Atlantic. A must visit when on Madeira for all that places value on culinary experiences.

I spent a wonderful evening at Goldhahn; The food was playfully presented and went well. However, I still allow myself some modest criticism. The greetings from the kitchen tasted somehow fried and had just a greasy finish. The dish with the consome was wonderful, but the flavor of the consome was so strong that I couldn't even taste the other components. The pigeon was awesome! The various fish were also cooked to perfection. The frozen Caspachio is a poem in taste. The carrot composition is really good.I was actually looking forward to the cheese but it never came?I found the bread aisle in the middle a bit questionable. It certainly makes sense to satisfy the guests, but do you need 5 types of bread with 5 types of sea salt and 5 types of spread? The team was super committed and very nice and attentive in looking after the guests.

We began our dinner with an attempt to loot us. The initial menu offered a pairing of €115. When we sit down, we are given an envelope with the respective letter, in which the price rose to €155. When I mentioned it to the waiter, it was all a supposed “printing error.” It's funny how other tables had the same error, I wonder if they were warned of the same problem. The first dishes had a great variety of flavors, however, it leaves a lot to be desired since it is a two-Michelin star restaurant. The fresh fish. Regarding the presentations, they are interesting, you could say that they are original compared to traditional cuisine, but again, for a restaurant with not one, but two Michelin stars, nothing innovative. The interior looks like a bingo hall, nothing interesting. The furniture looks like it came from Ikea. Let me remember that the minimum price is €235. I have to admit that the glasses are of the highest quality. Unfortunately, the wine that accompanies them does not meet the excellence of the glass. For €115 (or €155) one expects a high quality wine, honestly a Verdejo is better than the botched wine they have served me. Excuse my vocabulary. The last dishes, to use my favorite phrase, leave much to be desired. I couldn't even finish the last dish before dessert and to be honest I wouldn't recommend it even to my worst enemy. I appreciate that they deducted a dish for not finishing it. I think they tried to fix it after their failed attempt to scam me.There were two desserts; The first terrible one, I spit it out. The second looked like a frozen ice cream from Mercadona that you buy for €2. It was good, but they left a lot to be desired. Too much sugar to internalize to compensate for the similar filth they call dessert. The waiters seem to have memorized the dishes, show no interest in their work and are unable to pronounce the names of the dishes. We were spoken to in Portuguese on certain occasions because they did not know how to express themselves in English, thank goodness we spoke Spanish. Again, the service leaves something to be desired. To summarize, the alleged 9 moments have been transformed into 9 nightmares that tried to pass as two-star Michelin food. Thank goodness I didn't order 12. This restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.

I have been to a variety of Michelin star restaurants in Spain and I can assure you that the standard of restaurants in Spain is much better. The restaurant definitely does not reach two Michelin stars. The interior of the restaurant is nothing special unlike other Michelin restaurants in Spain like Enigma. Furthermore, the pairing is not very good and many dishes do not live up to what is expected in a two-star Michelin restaurant. You have to pay close attention to the prices of the pairing, since they sent us that the price was €115 and in the same restaurant they gave us the menu in which the price was €155, these errors are unacceptable in a restaurant that position with this level. The second Michelin star is too much for him and he may question the first. It is not at the level of a Michelin star. All this, taking into account that the price of the menu is 200+ and if you add the pairing, 115 more. I hope the restaurant improves, but I don't recommend it to anyone, it seems like a scam to me. We leave upset.

3 courses out of 9 (tuna, scallop and fish) were of 2 star quality, the remaining 6 of varied quality, but far from worth the price charged. OK wine pairings, but again not of 2 star quality. Good service throughout half the night, but then it dried up and left us waiting for the last courses. Very beautiful presentations and professional waiters and sommeliers. All in all an overpriced experience a fair bit below our expectations of a 2 star restaurant.

This is the best restaurant on the island. 2 stars Michelin and deserved for the wine
Pairing and the service which is perfect. The plating and complexity of the dishes are also stunning. The only issue is on some discrepancies between the plate name and the final taste of it. The beef consommé was tasteless. And they announce French cheese or dark chocolate that also doesn’t taste as expected or as it should be when we know this cheese or really good Belgian chocolate. The sommelier are wonderful here and the selection they are proposing is a must. To be recommended.

Expectations were high! Two stars, you could imagine getting a great dinner out of it, for the price, which is expensive. Our waiter was good and nice, the sompa was also great. The appetizers were nice, but the closer you got to the main course, the level dropped. However, we ordered the Top Expirienc, which we thought should have been The Top, well it wasn't. The wines were great anyway. The atmosphere was not improved by the carnival in the lobby of the hotel. Thank you for the memorable experience!
