I made a booking on the 19th of June, and when me and my family arrived, our table wasn’t ready.

We started ordering pretty much fairly quick, however the delivery of the food was horrible. The wine was poured without any knowledge of how the wine should be poured, no napkin was used whatsoever, wine was dripping, and throughout the night, we had to pour it ourselves. The waiter put the white wine in the middle of the table like it wouldn’t get hot, and we had to ask to put it in the ice bucket. Only red wine can be left on the table.

Our bread took 40 minutes to be served and our starters were served 50 mins later since our arrival. They were all served in different times and one starter was forgotten, or how the staff explained the system got broken..At the same time 50 mins since our arrival, my sister’s cocktail was forgotten and also was explained that system was broken.

For the oxtail ravioli starter, we received just a braised meat, not a ravioli how it was stated in the menu.

For the kid we ordered meatballs with mashed potato, however it was served only after our starters ( he didn’t have a starter) and was served a wrong order. He received meatballs with fries, and again we requested that it’s not what we ordered.

We ordered another wine and waited for about 30 minutes for it to be delivered, and had to re-ask why it’s not being served, when we got explained that it’s coming from another place. Again, no one poured it for us throughout dinner. Same about water, all the empty bottles were left on the table.

Main courses were served 1.5 H later since our arrival and the food was average, very undesirable experience.

The main attention went to tables allocated around chefs open kitchen. We always had to remind the staff to clean the table and dirty dishes.

Overall, the staff never asked how was everything. Wouldn’t ever recommend this place.

It was the worst dinner experience in Madeira and in my whole life.
The service was so terrible, we wanted to scream because of the disappointment.
We booked a table for six people 6 weeks ago. When we arrived, it wasn’t ready. Our order wasn’t taken before we asked the waiter to take it in about 15 minutes.
We got our white wine without cooler. The waiter just put the bottle in the middle of the table. We had to ask for the cooler.
We had to pour wine and water ourselves.
Cocktail for one person was forgotten and we got it only 30 minutes later.
Kids menu wasn’t proposed. Had to ask for it. We ordered meatballs with mashed potatoes, but got it with the fries.
The starters were all served in different times, not all together. One of the starter was forgotten and we got it more than one hour later from the beginning of the dinner.
No one took the dirty plates and the empty water bottles stayed on the table for almost 2 hours. No one cared about anything.
Two days ago we had dinner at the same chefs restaurant Akua and it was immaculate. Everything was perfect.
But Kampo should not be called restaurant with such service and low food quality.

The only accompaniment that the chef is not good at is service. Disorganized and inefficient. I think it's not too demanding to expect the wine to arrive before dessert. Very good food.

Cocktails are too small for how expensive they are. Service was also slow, but the food is good.

Our best meal in Madeira! Oxtail ravioli was insane. Everything surpassed expectations. Sit at the chef’s counter so you can see all the deliciousness coming out!

We came at 21:00
21:30 we got our water
21:45 we got our cocktails
22:00 we got couvert and one (of two) starters
22:30 we got second starter after asking
23:00 we got main dishes after asking

Food was tasty, but my wagyu steak was overcooked (asked for medium rare and got medium well) and extremely oversalted. I decided not to tell about it to avoid waiting again, because at that moment I was already very disappointed and hungry

Beef tartar was very good!
Decided not to take desserts.

The atmosphere is relaxed and calm with good background music, the food is ? oh my god, what a delight ? we ordered:
* sardine, eggplant and passion fruit (juicy)
* Oxtail ravioli with foie mouse and truffle (pure delight
* escalope of foie, banana and passion fruit
To top off dessert:
* White chocolate, olive and passion fruit (unforgettable)
The waiter's service was of another level, attentive, cordial, friendly, he made us feel very comfortable after explaining each dish in detail.
? RECOMMENDED
Try it, you won't be disappointed.
We arrived late, they only serve a menu until 3pm but with the starters and dessert we managed very well.
We will return

We were told this restaurant was “nearly Michelin star quality” so we were very excited. However it did not live up to the hype at all- we had been seated for 35 minutes before I finally flagged down someone and asked if I could please order a drink or food. Everything took an incredibly long time, we didn’t receive our entrees until the 2 hour mark. Didn’t even consider dessert. The food was all very delicious but we still left very disappointed. I would try again but maybe on a Tuesday instead of a Sunday to see if it’s easier to manage

It is worth going there to enjoy the live food and the dishes they offer... It is a little more expensive than the average, but it is worth paying a little more and trying things different from what is offered in Madeira ... From 10.
