We have been visiting this restaurant for many years - many a time have we enjoyed the breathtaking views of the Atlantic and superb food. On this occasion we happened to revisit on their opening night following extensive refurbishments and we were delighted by the improvements they have made to the restaurant. Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our food -it was excellent as always and the service was exemplary. We were skilfully recommended wine which suited us perfectly and we hope to be back later in the year to enjoy this restaurant ! Would absolutely recommend visiting this restaurant if you are in the Funchal vicinity!

Excellent experience! The tuna steak was divine, braised as requested, very fresh and accompanied by vegetables and boiled sweet potatoes. The octopus with rice was delicious. Surprising in flavors. And the chef came to greet the people at the table, very friendly and attentive.

Great restaurant for traditional Portuguese cuisine. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is great.
We had had Octopus with Rice, which was amazing. You have to consider that they require at least two people to order it in order to prepare it for you (as they cannot prepare smaller quantities). Two of the people at our table ordered it and two huge pots came - one with Octopus (with onion sauce) and one with Rice. However, the sizes of the portions seem to be really big, as there were far more than two portions there - possibly even full three portions (and we paid for two, so no misunderstanding there). It tasted amazing.
We also had Lamb Chops and Beef Fillet Cubes. They were both really great and the portions were fairly big as well.
The prices are kinda steep at first glance, but for the amount of food you get, as well the high quality, they are completely justified.
O Clássico used to be considered a reference in Madeira as must try restaurants for high standard traditional dishes. Very shocking to see that it went downhill ( due partially to works in the restaurant) all the way to the place were there's no ambience at all nor background music, very dirty windows, a weird draft in the restaurant an in improvised reception that in my opinion is not very well put together. The starter ( mango & smoked salmon ) had a very 1980, tomato and lettuce "hotel food" decoration and the salmon was either very old or very low quality (or both). The specials of the day were superb though! Fresh fish traditional risotto like stew - just beautiful! The staff was outstanding: very welcoming, efficient, friendly and polite as always.

Eating cold is the best service in this establishment. In the morning breakfast with plastic mats without cutlery... and cold fried eggs and ham and from noon onwards the tablecloths are thrown away and the food is served cold again for great PRICES... and nothing behind it....
