We had espada with a banana and shrimps. There were small problems with communication in English but the experience was rather pleasurable.

“Buyer beware”!!!!This restaurant is atypical of Funchal where the customer is treated with respect and dignity. A slick selling routine is followed by bringing unrequested garlic bread to the table, added to bill at €7 for 2 people. A glass of wine ordered and a half bottle was served at €12.50. Large beer cost €6 when other establishments charge €3-4.Food was average. The final stunt was a shot of Madeira wine on the house….!!!!We will return to Madeira but never to this rip off joint!!!

My husband and I stopped here today for a light lunch. Garlic bread arrived without being ordered. We later discovered we would be charged €7.00 for the unrequested bread. I asked for a glass of red wine. I received a half bottle of mediocre wine, and was charged €12.50. Expensive by the usual Madeira standards! Food was average. Would NOT recommend this restaurant, mainly because of their sharp practice.

The food was ok, the waiter who invited us to the table was hyperactive and extremely restless. Bolo de caco is served to the table without asking, for which €6 is added to the bill. When paying, additional questions about tip. No prices for drinks. The place is clearly aimed at attracting tourists, I don't recommend it.

How is it possible for a restaurant to have its kitchen closed at 8pm when the closing time is announced at 10pm!?!?!?!?

We were looking for an authentic and typical Funchal experience and here we found the best possible: incredibly friendly and fun staff, extremely good and traditional food and an entire experience that I highly recommend to everyone who comes here. It is a MUST to have lunch or dinner here, because it is without a doubt THE gastronomic experience of the place. Thank you for your kindness and the excellent memory you left us.

I had some tuna steak. It was ok for what I paid. The only thing that I'm a bit puzzled was the bread that was almost half the price of the steak. Anyway, the owner and waiter were so nice in the offering of liqueur (I think, I had 3 shots with a wine, banana spirit and some ginja) and I was completely satisfied. I was dining outside and the atmosphere seemed to me authentic and easygoing.

It was a pity that the food was less. Especially the pescada, it was full of bones and looked like it had been reheated in the microwave, a real shame for this delicious fish. The banana was freshly fried. The skewer was ok. The female waiter was very friendly.

Had a great time here on our trip to Funchal. Some lovely staff, great food, and a lot of free drinks and biscuits ? they also love to make you wear a crazy hat and take a picture. Lovely place.

Absolutely puts funchal to shame by ripping people off ! when the bill arrives there is no explanation regarding the cost of wine, beer or water and the male waiter stands and blags and talks to you like you are stupid. 8 euros for garlic bread which was stale, to be honest, I think that they make the prices up, depending on how stupid they think the customer is. Food bland I will never eat there again . we visit funchal plenty of times and this is the worst experience we have had. to top it all off the young waiter had the audacity to ask us to tip him before we went into pay the bill as he wasn’t prepared to share the tips with the chef!

In truth the steak skewers were edible, although I would question that it was fillet. Other than the non existent service, our real bug bear is the 8 Euros for bread that was placed on the table, and the 7 Euro for a bottle of water! Yes I guess I should have looked at the drinks menu but every where else is a couple of Euro for water. Please walk by there are far better restaurants or cafes in town

Buyer beware. We stopped for a beer and a glass of wine. We were given a small bottle of average wine. When we received the bill from the waitress it was 18 Euros. Everywhere else we were being charged about 9 Euros. We complained and the smiley, chatty owner mysteriously disappeared. We had the bill reduced to 14 Euros and paid it with a loud protest leaving the customers in doubt to beware. It is a tourist trap.

Most expensive beer in Madeira, €4.00.
