No real atmosphere, timeshare people ruin it. Beer was OK but not as good as Pub Number 2 over the road. Food ok, but long wait. If you go, you will probably enjoy to a point but personally I wouldn't stop off for more than 1 and we didn't revisit.

Well, this is a pub-like bar attached to a hotel. Looks nice, but the service was so bad. Was served the wrong Coral (ordered pure malt, and received a normal one), food was at best mediocre.
The kicker was after sitting there with no more drinks, food finished no one ever came over and asked if we wanted any more drinks. Waited over 15 minutes and finally I approached the waitress and asked for our check, another 10 minutes went by and I got up to go inside to see what the hold-up was, she walked right out the door past me. Finally, we received the bill, and will not be back. Oh, the prices were high on top of it all.
A perfect example of how important service is in the hospitality business. One person can ruin the experience, and make sure that you never return.

Service was good as we arrived but then had to find a person to pay bill. Stayed only for one drink each. Was 15 euros for a beer and a vodka coke. More expensive than other places nearby. Himself went toilet and said was good. Wouldn't go back as more places cheaper with more fun atmosphere. Was attached to hotel so probably why prices higher.

I personally took the toast with cheese and ham and it was good in my opinion. I also took a sweet cocktail with it and it tasted good too and went well with the toast :)

Nice cold beer in a recreation of a traditional looking English pub set in the retro chic of the Carlton Hotel. The beer is nice and cold, and food choices are adequate. Burgers were OK. The terrace provides nice views down the hill. Staff is pleasant. If you need to take ice up to the room, they were always helpful.

Great place, with a pleasant atmosphere. Food wasn't quick, but it was worth the wait. Staff attentive without being over the top. Well worth the visit.

Although visiting here on several occasions for drinks on our way out to dinner this time we decided to trade in some of our Yums to go towards a late lunch. We must say we both were pleasantly surprised / impressed with the food quality & service. It is not fine dining but perfectly acceptable for a lunchtime or for that matter an evening dinner if you just want a simple no fuss meal at a reasonable cost. No bows or whistles but more importantly no issues / complaints either. Nice portioned nice food. Certainly will go again could not recommend enough. We had 4 x Glasses of Wine, a Bolo do Caco start, 2 x Scabbard Fish Goujons meal served with Wedges & Salad all for €55 - a trade in of €25 for some of our yums an absolute winner for €30. Many Thanks to the pub team for the surprise.
It would have been higher if the fish was crispy but it wasn't. I enjoyed the madeiran carne dish which is a starter. It is a big portion and would have gone lovely with some rice. It could be a meal on it's own. It's a quiet place and perhaps needs a decor change to make it cosier or brighter as the setting doesn't lend enough character.

2nd visit just love this place
Great food and drinks lovely terrace and good for yum redemption .
Good atmosphere. If you are a guest at the Pestana, it is the place where it is most worthwhile to eat something light (toasts, snacks). The price/quality/quantity is adequate.

€3.90 for a small beer, €3.80 for an apple brisa. The most expensive place we've had a drink in Madeira.Pizza cost €12.50.It was bland and tasteless, we wouldn't eat here again.Better to buy a €2.19 pizza and a 1 litre bottle of Coral (cost €1.49) from Pingo Doce.
