Typically Lisbon, overlooking the Place du Commerce... with the mouth of the Tagus interspersed with the passage of trams in the background

In France there is no extra charge for bread and water, this is obviously not the case in Portugal. The waiter heard us speaking French and asked if we were French and we said yes. We each ordered an entree. Didn't see the drink list. The waiter took the initiative and opened a bottle of water for us, and gave us each a small piece of bread. After that, they brought two plates of cheese and butter and put them on our table without asking us at all. My husband asked if there was an extra charge for these. The waiter had no choice but to say yes, and we firmly said we didn't want them. It's a pity that an old store has such dishonorable practices. Bread and water were not too expensive to eat, but they forced us to pay for them when we didn't order them. It was really a bad experience.

An excellent place, full of history and stories that its herds have fun telling.
The service is first class, they know their job and they know how to treat people.
La Corvina a 10!
The Whiskey dessert is also very delicious.
A little expensive, but the location and history are worth it.
Kid-friendliness: I went with three children (8,8 and 4) and they were treated very well.

Tasty cuisine. Welcoming staff. Opt for a meal in the room with its sober and traditional decor, among the Portuguese, rather than on the terrace visibly preferred by tourists despite the incessant noise of the traffic. I recommend this address.

Barely arrived, hit by a running waiter. Not a look or apology. Then, served very slowly, with servers who judge. The drinks were very good but again no smile, but worse still a black stare. Avoid if you want a good experience

The service is good, location too, but they charge you for services you didn't perform. They charge for the use of Olive Oil, for example

Start as liquor store in 1778 where was possible to buy Ice, although the official inauguration was in 1782. The most famous customer was the Poet Fernando Pessoa. The Portuguese Literature Nobel Prize was also a customer in the late 20 century among many great figures of portuguese arts and culture.

Quite expensive for what it was, but on the main strip - great location. Great outdoor seating and easy to get a table.

Some dishes are better than others. I had no expectations given the location, but was surprised by the traditional atmosphere, and the attentiveness and knowledge of the waiters. The menu was very traditional and interesting, but the food was just okay. The desserts were great!

Simple and tasty food (we tried just fish)
Prices are honest, drinks are quite cheap.
Good for lunch to avoid the heat (as the building provides good shadow)

I don't recommend it: after around 1 hour to be served, the dishes are served at 9:30 pm. Before that we had already asked if there was any problem with the dishes, as the restaurant closed at 10pm;
As can be seen in the photo, the potatoes that accompanied the meat dish were poorly fried. The owner/waiter went to the table to ask if everything was to their liking, to which we presented the potatoes and expressed our displeasure. He said they were good, we tried them and he reiterated, he said they were not frozen potatoes.... potatoes cooked in oil, they are not French fries!!! We took advantage of the fact that we were talking to the owner/head chef and talked about the time it took and it was justified because it was traditional food. He spoke as if the customers didn't know how to cook!
We do not recommend this restaurant, terrible service and the price you pay does not justify the quality, let's say that good fries are the minimum.
While we were having dinner, the employees were already cleaning the restaurant floor.
