We were pleasantly surprised to find a Guinean family running a restaurant at the foot of the Serra de Montejunto. Typical Portuguese gastronomy and a touch of Africa here and there on the menu. We ended up trying Catchupa. We left the dish clean. Two hours of conversation with you gentlemen and a well-cooked meal.
Exceptional food, delicious. Homemade and fresh. Good wine.The only problem is that you can't go in a hurry. It is a family business and patience is needed.Recommended only if you have enough time.
My wife and I ate here every night for 9 evenings (they are closed on Tuesday) and we thoroughly enjoyed the good food and excellent service. The present owners are Carlos and his wife Carla, who is the chef. Originally from Guinea Bissau, they lived for many years in Lisbon and in Groningen, Netherlands. They speak good English and Dutch. The atmosphere is friendly and warm in a dining room that is full of character
