Every year the price of a piglet increases, this year it was €150 for a piglet and they didn't even offer champagne like last year. And suckling pig this year was very cold. Last year it was €120 with two champagnes on offer. Unfortunately they increase, reduce and no offers. That's why I give it 2 stars.

We initially ate for the first time within a few days of our Christmas break. Had a beautiful experience and the young lady front of house was excellent. We heard her tell other diners they had availability on Christmas Day. We were keen to book based on the meal we had just had. Christmas Day arrived and we turned up at 6pm. The tables were so close together and a few were already occupied. An older lady showed us to our table. She was assisted by a very young girl. We noticed all the tables were already set out with hors d'oeuvres. Bread, tuna pate, carrots,olives, melon and other items which were unrecognisable and tasteless. The older lady was not welcoming and the young girl seemed nervous. After a few minutes a plate of prawns and squid arrived. We were unimpressed so far. We picked at the selection and when that was cleared away the main course arrived. Turkey rolls with cheese and ham served with bizarre thinly sliced cold crispy potatoes. Again we didn't really enjoy it and I asked for coffee rather than take dessert. Husband chose cheesecake topped with barely thawed berries and an overkill of cream which constituted 50% of the serving. We paid the bill and left. So disappointed with the food and ambience. The coffee was good however it was meant to be served with cake. By this time, I just wanted to leave so didn't ask for it. It all felt rushed and stressful for all concerned. Watching the faces of other diners soon showed we were not alone in our indifference. I have scored it 3 . First visit would have been a 5. Christmas Day was 2 for the good coffee. Sorry but we cannot recommend.

One lovely meal. One not sure good. When asked did we enjoy, when I said my meal wasn’t what I expected, the reply was they hadn’t had any complaints, everyone’s enjoyed today. That’s as ? maybe. But mine is not everyone else’s. Treat every meal as individual. My partners main was amazing, mine wasn’t. Learn to deal with criticism, alas we won’t be back and alas. No Tip …. Big mistake ….

Absolutely top class. Friendly staff, lovely vibe in the restaurant and most importantly really great food and really great prices. Also had a bottle of wine from Douro valley and it was excellent. Even a little mishap with one of our small ones (a complete accident) , a busy waitress and a plate lol led to the waitress arriving over to apologise(was no need) and a complementary ice cream for her. Above and beyond and amazing service. We are here for another 6 nights and will certainly be returning before we leave. A round of applause for all Involved in Casa Velha
