We go here for lunch almost once a week. The food is traditional Portuguese and very tasty. I always end up ordering the Porco de amêijoas (pork with clams) it’s delicious. And you have to try the desserts. My favourite is Arroz doce but they are all worth a try and homemade. Anna and her son, Carlos, speaks English so no language barrier.

We were 4 people, all absolutely satisfied. For me, the best meal in Portugal so far (and we always chose a rating of at least 4.6*). Friendly and kind service, pleasant atmosphere. The portion is large, the mushroom sauce pleasantly surprised me. Yum!

The Afonso III is located just a 5 minute stroll from the centre, in a quiet square directly opposite the Loulé Jardim Hotel. It has both indoor and outside dining areas and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate here twice during our stay and each time the food was excellent. We had Mackerel with Tomato Rice, green salad, Turkey and Mushrooms in a cream sauce and the Cuttlefish with rice and chips, also their homemade Trio De Algarve dessert!Everything was great, including the portion sizes and prices were also very reasonable.Highly recommended!

What a great place to stop for a meal on first night so helpful and willing to make up a veggie meal late at night and really good house wine would go back again.

On arrival I asked for a table outside. I was immediately told by a very grumpy man that there were no tables outside and that he was already having to serve a table that had arrived before opening. I asked for a table inside and he nodded and then left me standing. After a while he came back and said he had misunderstood and showed me to a table. Really not welcoming or professional. A pity because the food was good.

I’ve just eaten at this restaurant and had a Turkey Steak with cream and mushroom sauce. Absolutely fantastic 10 out of 10. Sauce was delicious, Turkey tender and chips crispy just how I like them. The rest of the guys with us all gave their meals 10 / 10.

I couldn’t understand why this restaurant was always empty when the cafe next door was busy. I went there tonight, and now I understand why. I apparently did not order a dish that was expensive, which soured the lady (who I assume is the owner or manager). She was abrasive, rude, and dismissive. It was uncomfortable and awkward. A little kindness and politeness goes a long way. Maybe try it sometime?
