Since I lived in Japan, it is difficult for me to go to a Japanese restaurant in Europe. UMAI is an exception. The restaurant offers very good quality products, cooked by an experienced chef. The value for money is incredible. The chef is very diligent in his preparation and presentation, which can lead to a bit of a wait. But the wait is worth it. Delicious!

For lovers of good Sushi.
Very high quality sushi with a very acceptable quality/price ratio, despite not being very cheap. The Cheviche Taco is spectacular, as is the tempura mix of vegetables and shrimp. The Japanese French toast is very good. Well worth the visit

I honestly thought it was absolutely horrible. The fish was completely out of date. My wife and I both got sick, I thought it tasted a bit funny but as I was starving me being silly kept eating.
At the end of the meal I was already feeling slightly wierd and asked if the fish was fresh. The gentleman paused and looked a bit worried but said it was. Now I know the cause of that pause.
I shall be back there when I can leave the toilett to make a formal complaint.

I had been looking forward to eating there for a very long time. I finally got a chance to go so I made a reservation for 4 at 8.30p. When we arrived we were swiftly greeted and seated. THe staff was really nice. We ordered our food and then it went downhill for my husband and I. Our friends had the best experience and from what they tell me their food was wonderful. They ordered the Umai tasting Teishoku. We ordered 8 pieces of Nigirizushi, 1 tempura veggies and 1 special salmon Gunkanzushi. We received our tempura when our friends were already in the 3rd course (out of 4). When they received their sushi dish we got nothing. At 11pm we still had no food so we asked the server and he brought us a special that we did not order and did not enjoy and 4 tuna Nigirizushi that were roughly cut as an afterthought because they wanted to close the kitchen (no wasabi on the plate). They had run out of salmon. Because it was so late we left without desert. When time to pay came, there were no apologies and not even a compensation for the mix up and the delay. They could, at least, have compensated my glass of wine. I left at 11.30p, extremely disappointed and sad, because I was really looking forward to the experience of really good sushi which I didn't get. I don't understand why the chef did not prepare all the sushi for our table at the same time. I would recommend not to accept any take away orders when there is only one chef and the restaurant is full. Focus on the patrons that are present first. I would like to try again but I am afraid having the same bad experience... My 3 star rating is based on my and my husband personal experience. Our guests had a 5 star experience.
Parking: It is always difficult to find parking in Loule so be prepared to drive around and walk. During the day it is paid and evenings it is free.
Kid-friendliness: Not unless your children eat sushi.

Cozy restaurant, however service took a long time to be desired... The sushi is very basic, the pieces were a disappointment and not to mention there were pieces with mango and the mango was ROTTEN!!!! Inedible… Once and never again….
