Portela À Vista Restaurant is fantastic and very easy to find. I have never been to a more beautiful restaurant with such a fantastic view of nature.
On Saturdays, we knew in advance that there would be a lot of people waiting for a table, so we called the day before to make a reservation. When we arrived at Portela Restaurant, we only had to wait for a few minutes.
We asked the waitress for the traditional food, espetada with French fries, and the food was excellent. The prices for food and drinks were very reasonable considering the quality offered.
However, we were not pleased with the service. The waitress was occasionally inconvenient and often seemed upset about things that customers shouldn’t need to be concerned with.

Great welcome from the waitresses. The chicken skewers were very good and the meat excellent.
During the meal you will have a beautiful panorama, I highly recommend the restaurant.

I also had the special dessert, although unfortunately she wouldn't reveal the secret, make sure you try the pudding with almonds ? !

A nice little restaurant that puts the skewers on a large display at the table and all you have to do is slide the meat onto your plate. On the other hand, terrible service from one of the waitresses... she was simply bored.

We waited 30 minutes for a glass of water and 1.5 hours for an omelette and (sad) fried sweet potatoes. Yikes. No acknowledgement from the staff, in fact, they thought we were done with our meal and asked how everything was...clearly they missed putting in our order or just completely wanted to push us out for the next table.
This place has a lot of potential – great location, good views, right by a hiking trail. Unfortunately, it caters to big parties and that leaves a lot to be desired in service and food quality.
The proper thing to do was to acknowledge the situation, offer to bring us something in the meantime, or take some off the bill. Needless to say, none of that happened. We left with a very bad taste in our mouths in all ways.

After a hike we wanted to fortify ourselves there, it was right next to our parking lot. We ordered the large meat skewer, fries and salad. The food came quickly, even though a larger group had just arrived before us. Fresh salad, tasty fries and the skewer, just as we had hoped. Very good meat quality and taste. We'd be happy to come back when we're in the area again.

Wonderful dinner in this restaurant! We ordered rotisserie beef and rotisserie chicken, with salad, chips and fried cornbread, and to wash it all down we ordered their signature garlic butter bread! Everything was excellent, the best dinner we have had since we have been here in Madeira. The very kind staff!!!! I highly recommend it to everyone!!!!
