There are few restaurants on the Matosinhos waterfront that I haven't yet visited. Today I decided to go to Semper a Assar.. regrettable decision.. We arrived for months without cleaning. They sat us at one of those tables. I wasn't satisfied with the reception, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt... the experience continued and followed a terrible pattern. It took them a long time to clean the table and collect our order. The main course [roasted sardines] arrived before the starter [fried cuttlefish], plus the punched potatoes [garnish] did not come with the sauce separately as per our request. They took them back, but they returned almost as they first arrived. They ended up charging me 2 doses of punched potatoes. I hated it and as a "foodie", I recommend anyone who sees this comment to go to one of the good restaurants in Matosinhos, Semper Assar is not one of them.

Very great waiters and a nice atmosphere!!! Came because of a recommendation and were blown away by the hospitality.
The food was tasty, the fish was fresh and nicely prepared. However, the service was less. The food took a very long time. We were also all served dishes without being told that we had to pay for them. The waiter was not understanding when we pointed out that we had only ordered 1 portion of something instead of 2. The fish was tasty, but we would not come back here.

My experience was terrible. We ate grilled cuttlefish and grilled squid and caught food poisoning that meant we spent a night in the hospital and we are still recovering. We ate cuttlefish in ink but whoever cleaned the ink cleaned it poorly and it didn't stay on the coals long enough, which resulted in poisoning. Terrible experience and not to be repeated. Furthermore, the organization and service leaves something to be desired.

Sempre Assar was recommended by a local fisherman. Only the best, we were told. And it was accurate. We had an experience unlike any dining experience in the past. Food was outstanding, and the service was friendly and attentive. Zero complaints. I only wish I was hungrier and cleaned my many plates.
