“Staff very nice and attentive. Rapid. They spoke Spanish. Very friendly with the dog. The cod is exquisite, the wine too. And the desserts are very delicious. All delicious and at a good price. With water, wine, starter, main and dessert at 26 euros each. Highly recommended!“

“First time in Viana and first time at the place, very good attention received by the waiter who understood us and served us perfectly.
We ordered lasagna, francesinha (spectacular), garlic bread and mixed salad, and for dessert a cookie cake that I would repeat if it wasn't already full. Highly recommended establishment, we will be back.“

“Excellent fish and sea bass soup. However, the price of sea bass is shown by the kilo (€35/kg) without it being weighed in front of us. Conclusion: they charged us €42 for a sea bass for two people, which after all the math is equivalent to 1.2 kg of fish (not emptied), which seems much more than what we ate (any website recommends 300-400 g/person ). It also seems out of season that the restaurant manager, who also serves, is not in uniform like all the (very friendly) employees.“

“The food is very good!
For those who like to experience different gastronomic cultures (flavors and seasonings) it is undoubtedly an option in Ponte de Lima.
Coalho cheese, for those who like it, there is one very close to us!
Fried and cooked cassava. I like both although the cooked one is my favorite.
The main dishes were very good.
Mushroom risotto with black pork feathers!
Empty steak with melted cheese and crispy fries.
Romeo and Juliet pudding dessert (with guava paste).
I recommend it to try different flavors and combinations of flavors.
Congratulations“

“Visually, the place doesn't look much and the service isn't the fastest, which is why we assumed that the food couldn't be anything special either. BUT: We were pleasantly surprised by the good quality and taste of the burgers.“

“I loved. I ate a combo that had two large bread rolls, lettuce and tomato salad and fries. In addition to being a super affordable dish, it is also a super balanced meal: vegetables, protein and carbohydrates. I recommend it to everyone who goes to the city of Viana do Castelo.“

“Cozy place with very nice background music. Excellent treatment by the owner, very friendly and professional. We ordered rice with lubricant and ribeye, as recommended and it was a success, just like the wine.We were a bit heavy with the point of meat and he did not lose his smile for a moment. The homemade desserts are incredible. The tiramisu was ten.I would go back without a doubt.“

Great snacks, a very pleasant surprise.
From the entaladinhos (fried egg sandwich with ham) to the patties, including the gizzards, everything is very good.
Friendly service. Very unique decoration, in line with the type of establishment.
Everything great.“

“We loved this place with a husband and wife team. She asked if we wanted the meat roll she had in the oven which came with a soup starter or quiche. We went with the oven option. It was all very good. We then ordered the chocolate dessert cooked by the husband and a lemon dessert by the wife…the lemon was our favorite. We would definitely go back.“

“We found this place by chance and it was a great success. We ordered the menu of the day which included soup, grilled sea bream, wine and dessert. The waiter told us that he ran out of sea bream but that they offered us baked sea bass and it was wonderful. I will return one day“

“I comment on this from my personal experience of eating there several times. The restaurant is family-run, the service is good, very friendly, generally fast and optimal attention. The food is good, medium price, good quality and preparation. The entries are well prepared and presented. The menu has few options (which is not a bad thing, it is better to have few and good ones than not too many and not be made fresh as is the case in many cities), there is a fish option depending on the market, and some meat. Personally, I have tried goat and it is good (43 euros, 2 people), the desserts are very good (about 6 euros approx). It only has a couple of tables on the terrace, perhaps that discourages many tourists who prefer the nearby central square with several terraces to eat, however if you are looking for something authentic and more traditional, try it. A surprising detail is the bathrooms: very careful, impeccable, with several details... more typical of a very superior restaurant, and I mention this because I have eaten in numerous restaurants throughout the country and I know what I'm talking about, there are restaurants with a lot of fame and popularity but not in its bathrooms. That detail to me says a lot about customer care. On weekends it may be advisable to book, on weekdays it is usually no problem.
Kid-friendliness: As far as I know there are no restrictions with children or families.
Wheelchair accessibility: It is accessible as it is on the ground floor at street level.“

“We ordered a francesinha and a burger, they were divine. It's been a long time since we've had a francesinha this good.
Five-star service and extremely friendly person in charge.
When we return to Viana do Castelo we will definitely go there to eat again.“
“It is a place to go slowly and savor each and every one of the ingredients. Family and homemade food. We found it on our way to Portugal and it was a great success. In fact, when we return we repeat... They are very friendly. Tip: go hungry, the portions are large. Ends aviat Sunday!“

“One of my favorite go to places, located in the seaside village of Moledo, in the Minho Region of Portugal, one of Portugal’s best kept secrets… Don’t come if you don’t want to fall in love…Arroz de tamboril (monkfish rice) with shrimp, and be sure to reserve in advance as well as ask to eat in outdoor terrace with granite tables and benches…Their bacalhau and meats are mouth watering…Wash it all down with the house wine - Vinho Verde, red or white in a bowl (malga).Don’t forget to leave room for the delicious homemade desserts!!!“

“5 stars!!!!!!!
I have nothing wrong to say about this wonderful restaurant, it was the first time I came to this restaurant and I felt at home, the recipes, the atmosphere, the staff, everything was perfect, in addition to the fact that the recipes are quite healthy and affable, the creativity of the dishes is a tapestry of flavors, weaving a unique and captivating narrative, the restaurant's ambience shines like a rare diamond, reflecting light and warmth on all customers, the hospitality offered here is like a gentle breeze, bringing peace and tranquility to busy hearts, Each dish that leaves the kitchen is an example of intrinsic elegance, filling the environment with sophistication, the chef's ability to transform simple ingredients into extraordinary culinary experiences is truly magical, The generosity in portions and attention in detail it is comparable to a mighty river, always flowing and nourishing customers. The restaurant's atmosphere is a tapestry of comfort and refinement, creating an unforgettable gastronomic experience.“

“Restaurant away from the tourist area (near Carrefour) that you must specifically go to. We hadn't booked and we had to wait but I assure you it was worth it. The dishes do not detract from the name of the restaurant at all. The winery is very acceptable. It is worth going away a little to visit, but remember to book.“

“Great place for traditional Portuguese food Joe
Made with love to feed your body and soul.
Had a half portion of « cozido a portuguese « that can be for two. However I clean everything simply because it was so good. Finished with a nice dessert « bolo de bolacha » home made as all you’ll eat here.
Do not hesitate to make a lunch or diner break in this great place, you’ll not regret“

“A very nice place!
Friendliness and professionalism in service.
Great cod pataniscas starter, dry and crunchy.
Next, the roast pork shank that was suggested to us didn't shine nor managed to pass an average rating. Meat that was not very soft, suggesting a short roasting time, with almost no crunchiness, was not captivating.
The final pineapple and panacotta were quality.
Plenty of parking spaces.“
“When I entered, I didn't expect a cafeteria-style service, taking out a tray, cutlery, bread, ordering a drink, soup, a dish and looking for a seat... the food is fresh/fresh, displayed in a display case/greenhouse. I've paid very well and eaten very poorly, that wasn't the case.“

“Good meat, excellent traditional (manual) cut fries. Servings are generous (perfectly enough for two adults) so there's no need to over-order.Attentive staff. Desserts at low prices and with large portions (don't be shy about ordering dessert in this place, this is where restaurants usually take the opportunity to overcharge, but nothing like that happens here). We went twice in the same weekend and I will do it again when I return to these parts. You can call in advance to make a reservation and order to advance the service. As a minor point, I would point out the space, modest and outdated. It is a traditional place probably a few decades old.“

“Very good restaurant, with excellent dishes, they serve an exquisite baked cod, with very good preparation and presentation, as well as the rest of the meat dishes and their accompaniments that they have on their menu, in addition to their desserts, the homemade ones are highly recommended, in special the house dessert. The attention to the tables by their staff is highly professional, they stand out for their good attention and speed. As for the price, it is acceptable in terms of quality-price ratio.“

“Not to mention, we ended up stopping in Viana and did a quick search for dinner. Without high expectations, we stopped at this restaurant because we wanted something quick! We ordered the traditional beef burger and how wonderful it was, it comes with potatoes! ? Note that the meals here take care when preparing them and the ingredients are of quality! A pleasant surprise and who knows, maybe one day I'll be in those parts again and try the pizzas that are only available on the weekends.“

“The francesinhas are really, really good. The spicy detail coming from the chorizo and not the sauce is a healthy detail. Homemade unsalted fries complement an excellent meal. On top of that, it's cheap, compared to "the specialty houses in Porto".
The only drawback is the lack of air conditioning :( in the summer you sweat profusely inside :(“

“This was a surprise find. Very good value for money, very nice service, even if no English spoken. With the help of online translation, we had a very nice dinner. Local bubbly for 10.50 Euro was fine, Reserva red wine for 14 euro was excellent, possibly the best we had in Portugal. Almond cake for dessert was very large and very fresh. Fantastic value for money.“
“Just amazing restaurant, very well decorated, wonderful service, and amazing food, we have the Tomahwk, for my husband and I, with arroz caldoso de feijoas, vegetables and incredible deserts, a whole experience to try at least once in life. “WOW! Not many restaurant owners attempt—let alone succeed—in crafting a complete customer experience from the moment of reservation to the reception, atmosphere, service quality, and meals, but Retiro da Ponte does just that! The serene theme, beautifully set against a backdrop of nature, is evident in the stunning views and thoughtfully arranged tables.
The staff was incredibly helpful during the reservation process and provided excellent support throughout our visit. The pâté, olives, bread, and butter were delightful. My wife and I both ordered steak dinners, with her substituting the potatoes for a mixed green salad. For dessert, she chose the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, while I opted for the lemon custard, which was truly the best I’ve ever tasted.
The restrooms were immaculate and even featured monogrammed towels, which was surprisingly unexpected. The ambiance was both visually appealing and meticulously organized. I have two suggestions for improvement: first, I would have preferred to lower the volume for the music a bit, and personally would have chosen a more sophisticated jazz style, as this would have elevated the experience even further. Second, as a foreigner, it stresses me find out which card brands are accepted. My suggestion would be to include a list of accepted card brands on the first page of the menu, possibly with a brief history about the ownership or operation.
Final thought: I drove by many times but could only dine in on our last day in Vilar dos Mouros, and I wish we could have enjoyed it sooner! Thank you!
Parking: As long as you come early, you should be able to find a parking spot near the restaurant, around the local market, or across the Medieval Bridge next to the St Amaro church.
Kid-friendliness: Food for kids is available.“
