We searched on Google for a restaurant in Montemor o Novo, and Adega immediately appeared with its magnificent reviews. So we don't hesitate! Pure disappointment.
We arrived on a Monday at lunch, and although Google said it had been open and updated for 3 weeks, when we got there it was open but only for maintenance. All good. We were going to stay in Montemor for a few more days and would return the next day for lunch. At dinner they also announce that they are open, but in reality what they said is that they were only open with reservations. They were friendly and even recommended other restaurants for us to have lunch.
When we arrived the next day for lunch, from the extensive menu we only had 3 dishes to choose from, as they explained that they did not have the necessary ingredients to cook the others on the menu. There we chose the "dish of the day": Carne de alguidar with tomato crumbs. The migas had little tomato but they were still edible. The worst part was the meat: in addition to being poorly seasoned and cooked, it had a strange, spoiled flavor... We couldn't eat practically anything... My husband was sick for the rest of the day... Hot beers were served with it. in the middle of July! They were unable to properly refrigerate drinks and
(thinking about the flavor of the meat) I ask if they will be able to refrigerate meat and other sensitive foods in this hot season... The only thing we managed to eat was dessert: Egg, almond and gila jam. It was good.
I think that you can eventually eat well in this restaurant in a few days, or better said, you have already eaten... Time passes, people experience the wear and tear of age, and the tiredness and lack of attention and maintenance of a restaurant space does not commiserates with attributes acquired in the past... I think it might be a good option to reduce the menu so as not to defraud those who are there deceived by it, and at the same time it would simplify the work of this sexagenarian couple: He in the living room and she in the kitchen. With no one else to help. Maybe just serve some snacks, (which are so good in this region), and good typical Alentejo desserts. Purchase equipment for refrigerating drinks fresh and keeping wines.
Times change, and we have to readapt to the reality of the moment. A life of work deserved to end with the same laurels as in the past. Dragging out a less favorable situation ends up not being fair to those who have visibly dedicated their lives to work. Either that, or this couple should retire.
I say this trying to offer constructive criticism.
Serving food as it was served to us cannot be...
I'm not in the habit of leaving reviews, but this is one of those things that you can't stop giving. I'm sorry to have to say...

Hello, good afternoon, I was reading this review ' 'it's a shame that people like you go into Alentejo restaurants' to denigrate Alentejo food, ma'am, pork is bought and seasoned every day! The tomato crumbs have to be fresh, you might not like them! but just because you said there was no coriander?! I don't understand! I didn't cut the menu, you chose what you wanted, otherwise you chose another dish, it was your business, thanks for the criticism and good afternoon
The management restaurant the winery!!!!

It's a typical Alentejo restaurant! Small room... rustic decor and regional food.
Carne de alguidar desserts and acorn crumbs and very homemade asparagus....we were lucky enough to wait until lunch was ready because we arrived very late and we were grateful for their kindness in welcoming and serving us.
May our well be!!

I went in and they said they didn't have space, I asked if it was taking too long and the answer was “I don't have space now”.

A nice restaurant but with very slow service. Meat a little dry. Quail eggs with tomato are the ideal starter.

Lots of musty and damp smell. We got in and out straight away due to the weather.

A charming place with good and very homemade Alentejo food. They are a little direct in their service, without great finesses. We asked to change the wine because it wasn't good, and they gave it to us at the next table. We thought it was funny and that's okay, but there may be people who don't like it haha

Vegetarian options: We had two vegans in the group. They found something but they weren't very prepared. Still, they adapted, which is positive.
