Eat where the locals do. That's it - you cannot go wrong. Share the "fish rice" which is a seafood stew made with rice.
Servers were quick, polite and cheerful. The lulas grelhadas were delicious and fresh, salad was fresh as well. One or two potatoes pieces would've been nice. The lulas à Veleiro were beautiful but lacked flavor. Good portion size, though. Flan pudding and coconut pudding were delightful but portion size was a little underwhelming. I'll give them a second try.
O Veleiro ( the sailboat) was the restaurant for my first night in lovely Nazare and found it to be pretty decent, the food was good and the service not too bad. Arrived late without a reservation for dinner and had a short wait outside on the street while they cleared some tables before seating. Great to watch the sardines and fish being grilled on the outside fires. A simple tomato salad and fish soup to start was just the job, nice ripe tomatoes with onion and the fish soup was pretty tasty too, not too rich or over seasoned. As it was late there was not much fish left to choose from so opted for steak which was perfectly cooked with a light cream and mushroom sauce and some rather crispy and delicious chips. Desserts looked interesting but not this time ! House wine was a steal at €6.50 a bottle, total including water came to a very inexpensive €39.50. Service was a little slow to start as they were busy but it got better as the night went on. I would return and recommend.
We were told by our hotel that this is the best place to eat. It is a family run restaurant that has been open for years. It has good food and is inexpensive. When we want at 7pm on a Sunday the place was empty but was completely full with a waiting line when we left. the food is primarily all seafood. I had claims and my other family members had fish they said was delicious. We also had two of the homemade desserts. The restaurant is on one of the side streets running down to the beach so it is mostly devoid of traffic. Perfect.
Our family had a great experience! The food was excellent and fresh. The waiter knew his fish! Thanks for the warm welcome and great conversations! We highly recommend!
Really good food and really good service. We had a really nice time on the terrasse. Will definitely come back next time I'll come back in Nazaré.
